Compile your fantasy version of JA...

Sargasso

Recommended Posts

... featuring things that are not likely to be implemented but would still by your best estimate be possible to achieve.

Bad Example:

omg I want to explore all of coruscant then be able to fly across the universe aboard my star destroyer which I can name and rescue leah's lost sister from jabba's brother and sex0r her omg and then i pick 2000 force powers to fight the yoda clone w/ Doom 3 gfX d00d r0x0r his lightside azz. wanna use the dark side and r00l the universe !!!11!!1

Good Example:

-Rocket launcher, heavy repeater, flechette gun- GONE. Replaced with weapons that don't feel like common weapons from other shooters.

-Design a version of JA that doesn't cocurrently have the limitations Xbox in mind, first and formost.

-12+ species to choose your JA character from. Full gender options for each species (where applicable).

-Single player Co-Op.

-50+ saber color choices or an RGB color slider. 32+ hilts to choose form.

-Heavy tested and balanced multiplayer mechanics squared away before the game goes gold via open multiplayer tests ala RTCW, increased QA testing, etc.

Personally I agree with your statements/ideas. If you want to explore the universe, go play Star Wars Galaxies (if you can - I heard it is out in America and not here in Australia), if you want to bust some jedi moves play this.

I think you're right about the weapons, they feel so - boring. Done already in the other 300+ shooters out there.

I am sick of game consoles; they are useless and they are the benchmark for games for some reason.

However if you want co-op single player (sounds a bit odd) join the co-op forum, god knows I want it - but the more you look for a way to do it it doesn't seem worth it.

Now that colour slider, phwoar! Awesome idea in my opinion. I don't think the saber mods out there for Jk2 are really worth it; a dime a dozen basically. A colour slider will stop people using those stupid mods.

The only other thing I would like to see in JKA would be some of the old force powers - Destruction, Deadly sight, throw (objects at players) and blindness. And maybe a bit more thought into some of the multi-player maps (some just felt boring in JK2).

But either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Well, i'd like a long(something i dont finish within a week of mild gameplay as i did with splintercell) game with compeling storyline and objectives(plz dont rely solely on find the key puzzles) and multiple paths(already confirmed).

I know that there's tons of people here that will disagree with me when I say that i'd like a saber only game... it's my personal preference... not something I would want to ask raven to do. I can always choose not to use the gunz ;) Only for SP.

Rich compeling story (I repeat this cuz it can really make a diference in a game for me... JO disapointed me to be honest)

For the puzzles I'd like some stryfe like stuff...which points me to the undermined term of RPG in these forums... I'm merely talking about performing primary or secondary tasks that are given via scripted conversations with multiple choice answers with NPCs. Beats always searching for colored keys. The primary tasks are tasks that are necessary for level completion while secondary are bonus like tasks that grant us some advantage should we choose to undertake them and are not necessary for level completion.

Class, Objective and Coop based MP/SP modes with balance between classes and saber vs gunz.

If possible..whatever gameplay looks like in SP... make it the same for MP.

loads of utilitary force powers. Good for allowing other types of puzzles within SP and or more interactive maps in MP. Something Telekinisis for moving objects or an advanced form of mind trick... to fool NPC's or in one form or another use it against players in MP without meaning just invisibility.

Vehicle interaction like C&C Renegade.

Random SP mission generator like SOF2 but much more intense...something that resembles the main storyline like maps...except it's single map missions.

Diferent type of missions in SP...some should be all out war while other require smooth stealth or loads of character interaction... or allowing the choice of how to clear the mission.

I could go on forever describing how I'd like a game.. but these are the main points i reckon.

This is my type of game... im sure a whole heap of you will disagree but hey... if everyone was alike...we'd be all wearing yellow shirts (yuck). ;)

-Long enough gameplay to keep me going for a while

-Multiple ways of doing things and multiple mission outcomes

-NPCs that make sense being there/friendlies

-New force powers. For example something like "Jedi Sense" that allows you to feel the "mood" of a certain area of the map. Lots of enemies=bad mood.

-More challenging, but less total, dark jedi. Quality, not quantity.

-Even mix of familiar environments and brand new ones

-Cameos from the movies and the EU

-Open ended character customization that allows for downloads right through the normal menu

-Periodic updates from Raven that include new maps, models, etc.

-Good game to start with, with no severe bugs. Proper playtesting

-Good storyline that makes sense with the EU and with the movies

-MP/SP agreement (ie. Same backstab move in both)

-Interesting architechture

-"Believable" characters

-Less predictable weapons loadout (ie. No rocket launchers!)

-Focus on sabers

-More models of alien races

-Conversation

-MP Roleplaying mode, with storylines decided by servers (This ones a little out to lunch, but hey!)

-MP Co-op mode with objectives that make sense to Star Wars universe

-A Jizz Band!

Oh... there's more....

A built-in anti rpg module that automatically bans anyone that says "lamer", "I HAD MY SABER DOWN", "Bow first", etc etc from ALL servers available.

An automatic haxoring of anyone's computer that starts any form of any saberist code.

An electrocution of the hands of any player that calls another player a "scripter".

:)

YEAH!!! 1000+ emotes, special saber off animations, predefined speech such as "hey, saber off is peace" which are pre-bound to keys close to the WASD config, special maps with chairs you can sit in, a special chat windows which contains shortcuts to all the emotes you'll ever need... :p

Nah I just want Raven to make me a great game, with better graphics hopefully, intense saberduels and guns that matter :)

-Good storyline.

-Stormtroopers with a bit more health so I can enjoy gripping them.

-More duelling.

-No more trial and error puzzles. A few are all-right but JKII had TOO MANY.

-NO ESCORT MISSIONS! (At least make the AI smart!)

-Mini games!

-Make lightsaber battles like the movies!

Just my 2 cents.;)

I like a lot of Solbe's ideas - one particularly -

-Periodic updates from Raven that include new maps, models, etc.
.

You know this isn't something that should be so far fetched. I'd pay a monthly subscription fee if I could get a new "episode" say two or three SP maps/month - a new model every once in a while. Even if it was just 10 bucks, they'd make more in a year than if they produced a new game for me to buy every 18 months or so (compared to release of JK and JA). If I had a license I might think of starting up my own shop. Most of the mods/mappers/ etc. fail because people can't devote enough time to them - maybe if someone made it worth they're time they'd have a new business.

- mp combat identical (mostly) to sp combat

- replace made up versions of weapons with ones found in the movies (possibly some artistic licence would come into play here) ie. have a real t-21 light repeating blaster instead of the repeater; replace det packs with proton charges (like the rebel strike team uses on endor)

- dual genders for each of the species

- more sophiticated dismemberment (more dismemberment areas, like in sof2)

- selectable firearms, limited capacity (blaster pistol, rifle/launcher, explosive, equipment); if you see a blaster rifle and are carrying a sniper rifle, you have to drop the sniper

- no/limited items/weapons/ammo lying around maps in mp

More challenging single player campaign than in JO.

A few more cameos by movie/book characters.

I kinda liked those urban levels in the other games. I'd like to see a few levels set on Coruscant or Nar Shadaa or someplace like that. Although I'd also like to see a few natural environments as well (looks like there are some levels set on desert and an ice planets).

More civillians and other neutral NPCs. It's a little unrealistic to have the entire city of Nar Shadaa or Bespin trying to gun you down.

More puzzles or other problem solving parts of the game. JO's single player would have been very bland if it didn't have these.

I know a lot of people would disagree with me on this, and I know the game is called Jedi Academy, but I'd like a guns only multiplayer game type, or an option to disable the lightsaber.

Good storyline and interesting characters.

I won't repeat what i want that has been stated here (Storyline, characters, conversation, less shooter weapons etc.)

-RPG mode, so RPGers won't invade FFAs

-long game

-smarter AI

-NO FORCED-STEALTH MISSIONS (Dock), it's annoying when there aren't that many stealth technuques, and when there's scripted sequences where the enemy automatically goes for the alarm.

One thing I seriously want is more than THREE damn CTF maps. Yes I said, more than THREE, because Garrison 27-D may be the worst designed CTF map EVER!!!! FOR ANY GAME!!! And no one likes playing it. Most servers have taken it off. And because it takes so long to download maps from servers in this game because they didn't impliment some remote downloading like UT/UT2k3 have, no one ever downloaded the maps. So if you wanted an active CTF server you pretty much had to limit yourself to yavin, bespin and streets. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE US ATLEAST 10 CTF MAPS LIKE EVERY OTHER FPS!!!!!

Raven can't do THIS

Make the community like the original JK community.

No people going on about RPGers and how much they hate them

No people whining about those who like to use the saber off=peace rule

No people whining about people who whine

No people whining about people who whine about people who whine (me I guess)

No people whining about those who like to use emotes

No people whining about the fact there are mods released that make the game different! so they can't be 1337 and are forced to claim it splits the community.

All this is of course impossible

this post is aimed at certain people. They are free to flame me all they like since I don't post here much.

Decent Storyline (most important)

Less of a quake feel (to level design and weapons)

Some decent environmental puzzles

No speed and heal in SP

Saber combat more tactical

Lots of NPCs

Not set so far after RotJ (maybe a Dark Kyle JK ending sequel or parallel to JK storyline that links in in places)

Dark side Character (Aurra Sing, or Yun, or Early Mara Jade)

A stormie rifle that can hit a stationary stormie standing 10M away within 500 shots. :D

An imperial boarding action level...

But seriously, something that doesn't have the level design of quake... those horrible maps such as Nar shada and anything that looks like a bunch of platforms strung together. (blech, in that respect JO was absolutely terrible.)

Why only female Twi'leks? (I don't really need that answer)

Apart from that,, its what I want really -a little light action till I see how badly Bioware ("improved on") the ruleset for KOTOR.

You cant do what you want because -"we didn't want the player to screw up the game" spare me. You know if you just killed the whole town that finishing the game is a little out of the question. (Unless its morrowind. Couldn';t they just mark key NPCs?)

They dumped (it seems from the stats posted by the devs) the thing that made the rules cool, the VP/WP system... you dont die until all the party's been killed... These Bioware don't know the difference between left and right, and neat and stupid. grr... Look what they did to NWN! They don't even have 2 handed stuff (seems they wont this time round either).

Erg.

But My main problem with JO was the horrid lvls. Btw the game did have mirrors and stuff, they were used once only though, in Yavin final. Hmm... I seem to have mixed up 4 posts in one, but it still relates to the topic I suppose.

I would also like to bee a blaster cannon, and I would like the blasters to do appropriately large amouts of damage -none of this "hit the stormy 7 times to kill him". The shots should move faster too, like in the movies.

{edit] I would also like to see stormtroopers at their proper height -as it is they are all really short. Raven scaled them wrong. Easily corrected in the cfg, but...

They are also well trained, they should deliver a trip in close combat, you should be able to as well... That would be cool.

And blasters should do some damage...

[2nd edit]

Maybe a set of lvls during the vong invasion -you cant predict enemie's actions with the force in the fps anyway, so it would be cool to show those annoying plot devices what a real jedi can do... And none of that pansy "there is no dark side" balls that permeates the NJO, that is classic potentium heresy.

[3rd edit][ Killer Ewoks that try to eat you...

I would like scalable models for everything, so the game automatically gets better looking as technology gets better and better. Maybe have a target FPS rate in the options screen.

I agree with everyone who wanted more races. The four or so non-human races that are gender limited are a waste of time. They may as well not include them. I wanna be able to pick from at least ten races, and I should be able to pick male and female for all of them if they aren't single-sex races.

The ability to keep developing Force powers indefinitely. No more maximum rank of 3. Maybe this could be a single-player thing and only if you have already completed the game. It could play like Diablo 2: start on easy, and when you finish the game it starts again on normal difficulty but you still have all your character info and you can keep improving.

Maybe a random mission generator to help you accumulate more Force points (single player only). You would just have to clear out a random map of all enemies, or kill a leader or protect something. So if you chose a bad combination of Force powers to upgrade, and you find it really difficult to progress in a mission, you can keep doing an infinite number of other missions until you are ready.

More multiplayer maps would be cool. Maybe one featuring a Sarlacc sand pit monster. Actually, a multiplayer map where a person can let loose a Rancor into the arena would be cool.

More control with telekinetic Force powers. I've ranted about this in other forums.

In general, if it was much better than Jedi Outcast, then I wouldn't really be able to complain.

Things I would like to see in JA but probably will never get

- Duel small arm weapons ( small automatics, small pistols)

- To option of having no set movements for saber moves, perhaps simply moving your mouse would control the blade, but not ( not to say that JO's combat is terrible)in the terrible manner that Obi-Wan used for the Xbox.

- A good x-wing simulator type thing involved in multiplayer

- Single Player COOP

- RGB slider for blade and hilt color

- 10 selectable races, full gender choice when applicable

- Awesome physics system ( not to sure about this one yet)

- Lovable Multiplayer maps. I don't think anyone really likes JO maps over some maps of other games.

- Dark Moody Single Player at times

I like the way some of you think.

Quite to my surprise, we're on the same page regarding many ideal feature sets.

Sometimes I think it is a shame we can't band together and make JA the game we'd want it to be (and, dare I say it, that game it deserves to be). I, for one, am just not willing to invest the time in LEC FPSes that I used to.

Too true toms, too true.

JO Apologists will cite Raven's experience with the Q3 engine as reason enough for the hastey development of JO and now JA.

Realistically I think they were just trying to plug the gaping whole in their ship left by the Obi-Wan disaster. A quick fix.

I'm assuming JO was a commercial success even if it didn't deserve to be, which unfortunately has encouraged LEC and Raven to pound out a new game out of what originally was supposed to be an expansion pack. If they lapped up that, why not this? Ah well.

Apparently, unlike several here, I loved Jedi Outcast. Not liked, not really liked. Loved. More than Jedi Knight/MotS (my previous #1), more than Dark Forces (#1 before JK), more than Deus Ex, Half Life, Castle Wolfenstein (on Apple ][), Wolfenstein 3D, RtCW, MohAA, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 1 & 2, Quake, Elite Force and any other games that have crossed my Top 10 faves list in the last 20 years of PC gaming. Was it perfect? No. Many valid complaints I agree with, mainly the need for more choices and NPC's. I also like the story - the Remnant is faling apart, and a power hungry scientist and a errant Jedi student gone bad team up, each using the other towards their own goals. Sure, there were holes ... we discussed those to death a year ago. People thought Dessann was a disappointing finish - I think that was the point. I think Raven did a good job, JKII has been well reviewed as being up there with the best of class in FPS, and for good reason. I have high expectations of Jedi Academy.

Also, remember there are two companies involved here - Raven and LEC. LEC may have had some motivations around the ObiWan debacle (I was really bummed out about that!), but Raven was just developing a game under contract.

OK - enough of that. I'm working on a reply to the actual topic of the thread ...

Mike
