I struggled and struggled with the hacking, but with practice I was just able to 'get it'. Also, a trick to consider: the field is X number of columns wide. The string you're looking for is Y characters long. You don't need to scan the whole table. Start by quickly scanning columns 8-9 and 13-14 (or whatever). The odd are extremely good that there will be 2 numbers in one or both of those "target columns" that aren't changing. Now you're half way there. And if you can split your attention: if you're moving one string, you have a few seconds to continue looking for the other one until you have to refocus on the first. Again, take some practice. What did it for me was running Parker's obstacle course about a million times in a row until I felt very, very comfortable with the minigames.
