RE: your post in the Obama thread - in social psych there is a concept known as moral dumbfounding. The concept is that people have a knee-jerk reaction to something, then come back (if/when pressed) and fill in their rational/justification for not liking it later. I think a lot of the backlash against Obama is very similar to this. They aren't comfortable with his race, so they come up with elaborate post-hoc reasons for not liking him, his policies, etc. My 2 cents.
