  1. Source BioWare's Dragon Age, an RPG which has been in development since the dawn of time, has just received a website facelift. There's nothing much there but you can take a look for yourself. You know, I've seen video game and film teasers before but a teaser for a site is a new one. Let the speculation begin!
  2. (Not a spoiler) In the game Persona 3: FES there is a "Secret Boss"; one that is SO hard to beat it can take up to TWO WHOLE WEEKS to just PREPARE to fight it! I am not joking. Two... weeks. If you make a single mistake you die immediately. Even after you finally finish preparing to fight this ungodly boss you have to fight it, and beating it requires as much luck as it requires patience and skill. Well, that's my answer. Who do you think is the toughest boss in video game history?
  3. That awesome game has to be released! Let's help young team to collect funds on the kickstarter. Any advice or comments or re-posts are really appreciated. Take a look on video on
  4. http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/index.xml Archangel? Check. Barbarian/Palladin class? Check. Hordes of monster? Check. Lord of the Rings epicness? Check. I wasn't into PC gaming when the first two were out and I feel I've missed a whole bit of gaming history. I'll certainly pick this one up! Discuss!
  5. What are some essential PC RPGs? Strong characters are a must. Naming the obvious ones is fine . I also remember reading some post on this forum where a member was talking about a game that was recommended to them, and I think they said something like "All the characters are written up to the level of Kreia." IF one of you could tell me what game that was I'd be grateful.
  6. (This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.) Alien Swarm! What was once an extremely popular UT2k4 mod has not been revamped with the Source engine and is not being released today, July 19th, for FREE on Steam! I'm downloading it right now. I see a bunch of you already have, but I thought I'd still spread the word. Feel free to post your impressions! I'll be coming back here in an hour or two saying what I think of it EDIT: Played with some friends for a few hours. Feels very much like a top-down L4D, which is a good thing. There are loads of weapon and load out, options. You choose from one of four classes, essentially Tank, DPS, Tech, and Healer. You then choose your main weapon and your secondary weapon, along with some sort of utility (damage amp, armor, freeze grenades, etc). The game is also quite pretty. The lighting is very atmospheric and the monsters are all detailed (to the point where you can easily tell which type you're fighting). I'm headed to the gym so I'll give a more detailed review later, but my only main criticism right now is that the servers are being absolutely assaulted. The lag is pretty bad.
  7. The impact of 3D has been everlasting in gaming, and more than likely this is the reason why many have gotten into game art and design. Although playing 3D video games today is amazing the process behind it can be tedious and sometimes even frustrating. In this article I’m going to briefly summarize how you could create 3D Game Models using any animation software. The process of creating a three-dimensional character or object that is later put into a game sounds exciting (as it is), but in reality it is a static creation cycle similar to how an architect would create a building or design a city. Before you start the real video game work you define shapes, objects, and sizes and then proceed to insert your colors and textures. Of course everything comes “alive” once you insert the models into the game, because this is the part where the game starts taking its true form. But to create any model in the first place you will need animation software. Some Popular 3D Modeling Software Applications: 1.) Maya- Considered to be the application at the helm in industry work today, especially in larger video game studios. Like 3Ds Max it’s professional and also used to make other media forms like movies; the student version or scaled down version is the most affordable. 2.) 3Ds Max- As mentioned above, 3Ds Max is also popular in the game making world, and you could even say it’s widely known for competing with Maya. 3.) Blender- Open source and completely free software package with great abilities, a good start for someone with no budget. A generic overview to creating your Model: 1.) Much like your own body your bones and joints define how you move; this is what makes up the first step in the 3D modeling process, designing a skeleton for the model. 2.) Design a texture-less skin and colorless one around the bones and joints. It is not meant for appearances, just to see how your model will look in shape. 3.) Adding in detail is the next step, and this occurs as you color in the skin to get the look you want. Then you complete it by adding in necessary parts like eyes, clothes, etc. 4.) Telling the model how to behave by directing what bones and joints will move in what directions. In 3D modeling software this process saves you time because after you dictate the beginning and end locations, it usually automatically fills in the middle steps. 5.) Export the model into a video game design software compatible format. Most 3D modeling software programs have this exporting tool built in, and are able to export to a variety of formats for game development. In short, creating a 3D game model is not a hard process, but still not a brain dead easy one; it takes dedication and a learning curve to work over. Once this is accomplished you can do this as a hobby or even do it as a profession. Nevertheless, it will take practice, persistence and developing creative talents as an artist.
  8. Hello, Sorry for the shameless plug, but thought fellow MI fans would enjoy our first iPhone game, which is basically a homage to Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle etc. Here's a vid and a few screenshots. There's more info at flaghippo.com. Thanks! (This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

  10. Who else is rooting for Fallout 3? I'm thinking it's gonna be one hell of an awesome game, especially since Bethesda is developing it. Check out the concept art at the game's site . It's looking awesome. I've played Fallout 1 and 2, but never completed them, I'm afraid. They were real fun games, but I just got bored with them because they were really old. Still, it was awesome to play an RPG in semi-modern/sci-fi setting. The game's site says that the teaser will be out tomorrow. I'm starting to wet my pants here.
  11. As the title suggests, post your fun little (or not so little) free computer games (including online browser games).
  12. Web RPGs There are millions of them. I've never bothered with them, but i have come close to contemplating the possibility of perhaps checking them out. But choosing one out of so many seems to be quite foreboding. So I ask you: Have you played web RPGs? Which ones are good? I suppose a major one right now would be this Evony thing, which has ads all over the net. Well, the photoshopped princesses/queens/whatevers mustve not worked, cause now theyve done away with the women and just kept the boobs. (Or maybe it worked spectacularly, and now they just want to streamline their advertising)
  13. Source The fact that they can't get the name of their own game right doesn't exactly fill me with confidence . It's unclear as to whether or not good ol' Obs are developing this one but we do have this from over on the Codex: Let's hope it's more along the lines of MotB than the OC, eh?
  14. I downloaded the recruitable kay mod and the patch for the 5th time after having some comp issues, and I finally got kay to Dantooine to speak with her master and BAM, Module error. does anyone know how to fix this? I want to get this mod DONE
  15. Ok,let me explain my problem...when I type something in console, sometimes it automaticly replace my text with: and when I type another letter, game crashes...I can delete that "name;" but often I dont see that and I continue writing and it crashes...I must watch console all the time and it's rly annoying...plz guys can u help me out?
  16. INITIALIZING HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO Suppose that you had unlimited resources to design and create any video game fitting to your whim, what would it be? Be creative and very descriptive; don't be afraid to post what's on your mind! (Unless if it evolves erotic scenarios >_>) Personally, my dream video game would be an "interactive acid trip". Part adventure a la Myst, it would simply involve procedural generation and prerendered elements randomly spaced out... like an acid trip. The beauty of it is that it each trip can be fully customized to match the user's tastes by importing 3D models, images, sounds and music from your hard drive. Each experiencing is designed with a "randomosity variable" that ensures that each trip is unique and unlike any other previous trip. Each trip can also be entirety recorded for playback. Now, the best part about is that it is 100% open-source, and therefore, is completely free and able to be modified.
  17. So yeah, I know that more than a few of us play GW nowadays, thus I say 'Let there be a GW thread!' Note: This is not to turn into a 'lol WoW/insert other MMO here is better' pissing contest, so don't even try to bring it here, plzkthnxbai. I've been playing since release in 2005, have all three campaigns plus Eye of the North and play all primary classes except for Mesmers. I'm really heavy into PvE, not so much PvP, cuz I like getting stomped on by level 33 monsters in Hard Mode more than getting stomped on by gosu Korean contract killers in PvP. I'm in an awesome PvE-oriented guild (with Jae!) and we have fun hanging around the guild hall and discussing the latest armor fashions (Norn armor is bringing fur back in style, oyea). My favorite characters are my Ranger and my Monk. I run a Splinter/Barrage build on my Ranger with Pain Inverter for bosses/eles and it makes things go boom. I run a straight Word of Healing build on my Monk, cuz teammates dying is bad, and I'm really loving Seed of Life and Holy Haste. So yeah, now that I've babbled on semi-coherently about this, lemme know what you all think! What're your favorite builds? Which campaign do you like the best? Where do you like to farm for phat loot? Do Jora's 'large tracts of land' make you all hot and bothered? Tell me!
  18. One of the frontier games. I played that a while ago, while digging through some games. It really had that FPA feel. Lets discuss a great game and its predecessor
  19. Demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed coming on August 21 on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network Oops. A little late with this one. Or was it LucasArts that was late posting it?
  20. http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=617397&forum=104 Announcement by BioWare...so it's real!!
  21. Source The patch has been removed due to some technical difficulty or another - it should be back soon enough.
  22. Source That titan of the FPS-RPG genre, Deus Ex will soon be available for free download from the faucets at Gametap. Mark "Coming soon" on your calendars -- I think that means next week but I can't be sure. I'd bookmark this page and check it every day until the download becomes available. Each of your daily checks should last no less than one hour and should involve repetitive tapping of the F5 key. As every good dark, cyberpunk FPS-RPG should, Deus Ex plunges the player into a political thriller filled with intrigue, betrayal, and subterfuge; so, you know, get it... now. It's the only game that has ever (ever) involved politics and not gotten carried away with how clever it is for doing so. If you don't like it then there's something wrong with you. I bet you don't even find System Shock 2 scary, do you?
  23. Source The final update for NWN, 1.69, has been released and is now available for download from BioWare's NWN site. BioWare has also released a new desktop wallpaper to commemorate the end of official support for the role playing giant. The full patch notes can be found here. Highlights include the new creatures, music, (eight) tilesets found in Pirates of the Sword Coast, Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, and Infinite Dungeons. This patch is quite a send-off for the game and though I'm not a fan of NWN, the toolset, the mods, and BioWare's dedication to their community demand respect. /salute
