Samus
I am running teh JA demo on a Dell Dimension 8300: P4 3Ghz 1GB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB And a really fast harddisk Naturally, I set all visual settings to the very highest possible, except for the resolution, which I set to 1280x1024, because that's the max resolution for my monitor. I was quite surprised when I experienced lag. The framerate wasn't so good (i could see) and the player seemed to be reacting slowly. 1024x768 wasn't perfect either. Any idea why? Surely my computer must be good enough to handle those settings? Also, what's the console command to show the framerate on-screen?
Kurgan
First run the "System Analyzer" program that installed with the demo and see that all the tests run correctly. If not, you may need to upgrade (or downgrade as the case may be) your Video Card Drivers, update DirectX, etc. Most people find that turning off FF (Force Feedback) and Dynamic Glow helps their framerate immensley. Disabling EAX sound (or turning audio quality from High to Low) also helps for some people. Raven says that Com_Hunkmegs doesn't work in JA, but others find that it seems to help them. Up to you if you want to try this. seta Com_HunkMegs "128" The number is half of your total systme ram. Since I have 256 mb ram, that is what I use (128 being half of 256). The Default is set to 64 for Q3 engien games IIRC. To turn on framerate counter, do this: (go to the console.. SHIFT tilde and type): CG_Drawfps 1 (change it to a zero to turn off)
GoJiTa
It's most likely Dynamic Glow causing the problem. For some reason the Dynamic Glow feature is really eating away at performance, I turned Dynamic Glow off and my performance instantly doubled, so I'd recommend giving it a go. Samus
Thanks. I'll try some of that. Is dynamic glow the light cast by the saber?
Walwi Makno
That and all the other light sources.
