Crash right at beginning of mission

I've experienced this frustrating crash at the beginning of two different missions now. Most of them work fine, but at the end of two different ones now, I complete the mission, force power up, choose weapons, and go into a new one ... only to get the following error:

Any ideas?

 

It's particularly frustrating because there is no "save" game that includes me finishing the previous mission!
