I am so damn fed up with this giant snake...

I get the part, then stand under the crystals on the "x" blocks. I activate the part and press every version of "up" I can think of. Nothin'. The beam just shuts off and I drop back to the ground. Does the part have to be a certain color before I activate it? I've tried it on all colors(green, blue, yellow, red) and still nothin'. And what REALLY is annoying is that ya can't save the game after ya get the part. So every time I wanna try this I've gotta go through the whole schpiel of gettin' the snake to activate the trigger switch in the floor so I can hop up and get the part. What a piece of crap. Does anyone have codes for the N64 game? I just wanna skip this whole snake fiasco. I wish I could just shoot the sumbitch.
