This makes for interesting reading. Of course Sony havent bothered to respond with anything constructive.

Check out the times and some of the issues. Proving that most of the errors are game/programming related problems. And before anyone new decides to throw in their weight.. yes, latest drivers, updates, good spec pc bla bla bla

DM,

I see lots of exception errors.

Ever tought of video board memory / PC memory beeing faulty on your system.

I had a broken 256meg simm once who let me use Windows like a charm but when the time came to reinstall i didnt get any further then the boot sequence cause it hung on my, at that point clear, faulty memory bank.

Run a good memory tester just to make me feel good please ;)

And i know you allready tought of this but if u use different modules are the cyclic ranges compatible and stuff. (I dont go into any detail cause i know you know what i mean)

Just my 2 cents....

ive done the memory test. there was nothing wrong.

I then, just for peace of mind, bought 1.1 gig worth new. And it made no difference. Its programming related.

Im gonna pass it over to one of our developers to see if they know what this all means. The finds will be interesting

And how about your video board mem?.

Did u run some of the fancy graphics benchmarks? (Forgot the names)

I sure wanna know what it all means.

You mentioned a few threads ago that the PC on your work works just fine. If so kill of your system at home, software wise, and start all over again. (you did so allready i know, but i just want to see u a bit happier over this fact again). :)

As what I can see from the log is that is often something with the graphs. Can't tell you what. Did you have a radeon card? I don't have any XP ( :p ) when it comes to these cards, but maybe they're not compatible as good as a Geforce card (and thats what I have :D ) And if that is the case that is a HUGE mistake from Sony since Radeon is as big as Nvidia more or less. I know some game devs (not SWG now) say that their game is compatible with most graphic cards, but then with game release they have focused to much on one type of graphic card.

And now there might be somebody that will say that I have a radeon card and it works fine. Sure it will, but there is much going on between the computer and the game (back to SWG). And I say maybe, your combinasion of Graph card, RAM, processor and maybe even motherboard is what cause the problem for this game. And it is the Graphic card that is the source.

Or, heh, maybe you just have to format your HD and make a freash install of everything. But maybe you've already done that.

Or sometimes it can help having the game on the same drive where the System is installed.

Man... I tried to explain it as best as I could, I'm not from a english speaking country and writing in a technical way is not my specialty when it comes to the english language. (Sweden here)

Cheers!

Thats what i said too Tatoo.

Look at Call of Duty for instance. It ran perfectly on lets say 80% of the systems during release. (Dont know exact numbers ofcourse).

Then the rant came upon users having a Radeon 9800 (Pro) and there it was. Once again a developer who forgot to properly write the code for ATI cards and ATI came up with a fix off there own for these cards.

Same happend to the recently released Need For Speed:Underground where ATI power users (9800 and sorts) have all kinds of problems turning on the blurring and light trail effects the game offers.

DMUK said a few weeks ago that he had a PC at work with a Nvidia board who runs the game smoothly. At home he has a ATI based board and i suspect this i've wrote above to be truly a problem SONY has to solve for him.

I had a poll up a week ago to clearify this but no one replied to this.

@DMUK - Why dont u send this report and a mail to ATI. Maybe they recognize this stuff as something there graphic boards could produce.

Remember i also said the game wouldnt even launch with my old Nvidia 64MB card.

There is something galaxies doesnt like and theres a few people on the tech support forum who are having the same problems - but specs are all different and of course, both Ati and Nvidia.

So far, Sony havent bothered to answer my question and Iwill continue to flood them with crash logs and post my logs over and over and over.

Galaxies is on a new hard drive on my PC. Nothing else is on it. This didnt cure anything. Being told to reformat is not the answer considering people have and it didnt work.

fact is, galaxies has alot of issues - the key one was being released too early and letting the public pay to beta test. Ive said it before and I will say it again.

Reduce the monthly fee to $5 a month and rename the game... Star Wars Galaxies: A game in beta.

Hmmm... 32MB is not much, 64MB is better but it will not show much difference since the memory bandwidth is almost the same. To see a difference from a 32/64MB go for a 128MB non budget card (Geforce 4 Titanium Cards)

I can't speak much for the Radeon cards cuz I got no XP ( :D ) when it comes to these cards. But what I have undertand from what I've heard the most, it got more issues with more games then NVIDIA does.

I meant that you should (didn't say shouldn't :D ) maybe try to put SWG on the same HD where the system are. Haveing it on a drive where the system doesn't exist might cause problems.

I don't trust the idea either to reformat the harddrive (including the system) But thats what I do when something doesn't work and I've tried everything. Some times it works sometimes it don't.

I had a Radeon 9600 and I was crashing in a city every 5 steps. Replacing it with a GeForce FX 5950 was the *only* thing that helped.

At one point XP did a core dump, and in it it very clearly stated the problem was in ati_vga2.something.dll

I went to CompUSA after 3 weeks of trying to make it work, when I told the guy there I was looking for a video card that worked with SWG he looked at me funny and said "You don't have a Radeon 9600 do you?"

Apparantely it was the third such customer that came to him THAT WEEK with the *exact* same problem except that one of them had a 9800 Pro and was LIVID that he had paid 300 bucks for the card and it wouldn't run SWG..

It's most definitely a programming issue.

Just curious... do you play EverQuest?

I have to chuckle at this comment of yours because every EQ players has made a comment to this effect at least once over the past 5 years.

I've been playing EQ for 4 years .. and honestly it's a pity SWG is so addicting because if it was based on how it's run ... I wouldn't play it. Sony is notorious for having downright scary CS.

My boss has been playing Everquest since day 1. It was only recently he told me of a bug where people would run, fall over then die!

He did warn me about SOE and the support, bugs etc but I never had any idea it was this bad. If they cant even fix Everquest after 4 years, what hope for Galaxies?

I also find it total robbery that they have a Premier Service for Everquest, so you can get the latest updates and patches first. As if paying $14 a month for 3 years is not worthy of their attention.

If Galaxies switches to that style of gaming.. alot of people will be hanging up their Lightsabres.

I agree. If they come up with something stupid like that for SWG. I will stop play the game.

well.. I think the perception of it is different from the reality of it.. it's not exactly as bad as you guys may think it is.

The Stormhammer server is the server with the EverQuest Legends service on it (we affectionately call it Legend$). It's a 40$ a month premium subscription service that offers dynamic ingame content as well as increased GM support. There are some perks to it, for one you can transfer to and from that server with all your gear, and you can change your name for free. There are also dynamic events run by live GMs. That's what they advertise.

The reality of it tho, from the people on SH, they don't really care much for GM events, you can now change your name on any EQ server for a modest fee and you can now transfer to any server with all gear for a not-quite-as-modest fee. There used to be a huge disparity between Legend$ and non Legend$ people but it has cooled off over time. The truth of the matter is they pay more for content of dubious worth because they want to. As for them getting patches first.. that's simply not true. We all get expansion patches and zone revamps at mostly the same time, there is a percentage of zones that get released on Legend$ about a month before they go to live servers.. but you know what? They're doing us a favor because half the time SOE releases broken zones with no loot, Legend$ gives them time to fix the bugs and give us "working" zones.

I guess my whole point was... you aren't missing that much if you don't subscribe to Legend$. I don't really see a need for quitting the game over it, no one else did.. and I don't see how it would impact you all here either. If someone wants to pay more for a different brand of service.. hey it's their perogative. To my knowledge no one was held at gunpoint. If you think you are being ripped off because you should be getting more for what you pay for then.. hey.... them adding a Legend$-like service should not be your catalyst to quitting..you should have already quit. CS is only marginally better on Legend$ and it's a mixed blessing because with twice the support.. there also exists twice the policing of normal servers. Sometimes it's nice to *not* have a GM around every corner ;)

In short, it doesn't affect your gameplay AT ALL.. so no need to jump to hasty conclusions. Remember Sony is a *business* above all. They will try to make money in whatever area they see fit to. As a paying consumer it's ultimately your choice if you give it to them...

My boss is playing EQ and has been since day one. This is what he has told me. Either way its poor considering you have paid for 3 years add the bug factor, which with Sony is x500 compared to any other decent game out there.

But it is certainly worth looking out for and would be a good way to end Galaxies. I wonder how many out of the 275,000 are still playing?
