71M Posted December 19, 2003 Posted December 19, 2003 I just finished modeling a Japanese Long Sword, or Katana for JKA. This is probably a very heavily chosen weapon to create now with JKA's saber system, but i wanted to try anyway. Because of the limitations of the Hiragana font I used, the only name I could come up with at the time was "Kuraete", which probabaly doesn't mean anything in Japanese (Yes, I can read Hiragana and can speak Japanese on a moderately okay scale. ) Here are some screens: I'm thinking the blade may need to be a bit smaller, but then again, this is supposed to be a long sword. What do you think? -TiM
Covax Posted December 19, 2003 Posted December 19, 2003 Pretty cool. Not sure if that's a skin or a shader but the way the tip of the sword (I know there's a name for it but can't remember) stands out. Is that supposed to be some kind of writing on the tsuba?
71M Posted December 19, 2003 Author Posted December 19, 2003 Yes, it's a specular shader. It's showing up at the tip because of the angle I took the pic at. And yes, that is writing on the tsuba (The sword guard for those who don't know). I was originally going to write something in Japanese like "Jyei-kei-ei ha kakkokute tanshii geemu da to omoimasu" (I Think JKA is a cool and fun game. ) but the hiragana font I used didn't allow that, so I put down some random symbols, hoping no one who spoke Japanese came along and looked at it. Hmm, the braided part might need some more color depth too... -TiM
