jedisolofrankum
hi, I just bought a visiontek radeon 9600 256mb and I was wondering how much slower is this card compared to the ati radeon 9600xt 128 mb. -andrew frankum
Anach
Stuff all. Wouldnt worry about it. You could probably run it at XT speed without it heating up too much if you wanted to. Like i do with my 9800Pro
jedisolofrankum
so even with the stock fan on it I could still over clock it, what would the safe settings be to overclock it? -andrew
Anach
There is a little program called ATITool, which will auto set your overclock on your core/memory. IT will raise the setting, testing for artifacts (errors) along the way and then if detected, it will lower slightly. Takes about 5mins to test each setting (core & memory) Standard cooling is usually ok on the good quality cards, though on the cheaper ones can be an issue. Ive never had a visiontek, so i couldnt say. That program is about the safest way. If you search google for it, you will find many download locations. Of course overclocking can lower the life of your card, though it never has for me. If you are careful and dont go crazy, then all should be fine. The other good thing with that program, is you can tell it to only come on when needed, with profiles. So its not constantly cooking itself. It shouldnt clock itself too hard with that program as if it was, it would detect errors anyway. See how you go.
Anach
Mine is a stock ATI brand 9800Pro, with standard cooling, and overclocks fine without crashes. ATITools told me i could push it a little harder than i had been and i still havent had a prob.
jedisolofrankum
thanks for your help. but I have the graphics settings in the game turned to high and it runs pretty smooth but I'll try out that program. -andrew
SpaceButler14
Mine doesn't have the standard cooling so I'm no authority, but I remember firingsquad said something about the 9600 running fairly cool in general, so should be ok.
