Beginner needs help with AT-AT

I haven't been able to wrap the tow line around the legs. When Luke says so, I activate the harpoon and see it stretched out.

The problem is, I always seem to fly straight away, and the harpoon releases. I seem to have trouble controlling the ship once the line is attached.

Any advice?

It took me awhile to learn how to rope AT ATs. But heres how I did it. Use the boost. I found it alot easier full speed. After the cable attaches change the camera view. It really helps. Also if you do it right you do not have to maneuver at all. Hope this helps

Ah my specialty plotnick: go down the left side of the AT-AT, well, once you release the harpoon, hold down the acceleration button and the right brake of the speeder, and turn with the contol stick...simple as that. OR if you want(it takes awhile though) just keep shooting at its head until it blows up.

Hi,

I tried all this and my speeder randomly drops the cable and throws me back into cockpit view. Sometimes after 2 laps, sometimes after none. I must have tried this level 20 times!!!!!

Please help. Should I need to hold down the secondary weapon button the entire time or just press and release? I tried both!

Thanks,

Mark.

Once you've tied the cable around, try switching to cockpit view using the L button. Or if this REALLY doesn't work, try sticking to the default view but while flying low to the ground so you can see your shadow. When you're in a straight line, hit the boost. While turning, keep boost on, but hit the left brakes.

Hope this helps. Believe me, once you've figured how to do this, it'll become the easiest thing in the world. Just like riding a bike ...

Actually, when you roping an AT you are on minimum throttle by default, and it stays that way. As far as I know, you cannot alter your speed besides the brakes/thrust

Here's a really cheesy paragraph I wrote for my RS website along time ago. It might help

How to trip Walkers:

Probably almost all of us remember when we kept saying "how do I trip the walkers?!" Of course for most of us, it comes almost naturally and without much thought. But people who are new to the game often have trouble with it. So, to make life easier for the newbies, I decided to write up a short paragraph on how to trip that walker that just wont die. The only walkers you can trip are AT-ATs. Don't try tripping STs, it won't work. The only rebel craft equipped with a harpoon cable (to trip walkers) is the snowspeeder, and on missions with ATs to trip you will only be able to fly the snowspeeder. First, don't try to destroy the AT by shooting it. The only way to bring down walkers is to trip 'em. Begin by making a nice slow pass on the AT from the side. You can shoot it for fun or to raise your accuracy, but don't let it preoccupy you. You should try to fly right past the leg, and once you do, make a nice slow arc around the AT. You will then hear Luke say "activate tow cable". Press the secondary weapon button to release it. The view will then switch to an external view. Don't let this disorientate you, as it can be awkward to have the camera suddenly pull away. Steer straight when you are on the broad side of the walker, but turn in a slow arc when in the front or back. Do not attempt to go under the legs. Although it can be done, it is not recommended. Try to avoid the temptation to pull up; I crashed into the ATs chin on my first try. Continue the slow arc and try not to deviate from your course. Most things firing at you will miss, and a few hits won't hurt you. Soon Luke will say "one more pass." By then you should have gotten the hang of it and the last loop should be no trouble. When you complete the last pass, you will see a cut scene where the walker falls flat on its face. If you shoot tripped walkers they will blow up, in a neat explosion. It is a good way to raise your accuracy and get an extra kill, as you do not get a kill when you trip the walker, only when you blow it up. You might not make it on the first try, but you will in a few tries. Remember to avoid the temptation to break away, as the disorientation from the camera pulling away is what most people have trouble with. Good luck and may the Force be with you!!

actually, you can blow up the AT-AT. it takes four passes, but if you just keep shooting it in the neck/head it blows up.

Finally did it! Thanks for all the help.

I found that the the key was to keep the walker on my right and fly in a very low perfect circle around it. Holding boost the entire time, keep tapping right to continue the CIRCLE rather than going straight along the sides then turning around the front/back. When going straight the speeder seems to almost come to a complete stop, but when circling it maintained plenty of speed.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

Mark.
