clydeski
A few questions about modifying tga files: - What is the best and cheapest tool? I think I've seen people recommend photoshop. - Can anybody point me to a site/thread/link that would help me create/modify tga files? I have almost know artistic capability so all I'm interested in doing is changing the colors for the textures for things like armor, clothes, lightsabers, etc.. Thanks for the help. vinniemc
I found an excellent Paint program ( in my mind far superior than Paintshop) and its FREE. Has all functions and is quite dare I say it-> User Friendly. Go Here: http://www.oriens-solution.com/ Let me know what you think.. Just play around with it and in no time you will be posting unreal textures. Good Painting>>>
juv3nal
a student/academic/educational discount helps, but photoshop is by no means cheap unless you're talking about warez. I think it probably is the best image editing tool out there, but you can get software that has 90% of the features for at most 50% of the price (even counting student discount), so generally speaking it's not worth it. Kitty Kitty
Photoshop is sort of the cadillac of image editing software (at least as far as the PC goes for sure). Yes, it's an excellent software package, and frankly it's so full of features that probably 95% of the people who use it know how to use less than 50% of it. But.. like a cadillac, you're paying a lot for the name. There's another package called Paint Shop Pro (currently available at version 8 from Jasc software) that anyone who's shall we say a "very serious hobyist" in this field can Download for $79 or order boxed for $87 here. From what I've seen, it has everything someone who's not professionally involved in the field would ever need and then some, and even some professionals would likely find it more than satisfactory. But, if you only want to mess around with a file or two here or there from time to time, there are other (more afordable) options out there. Here is a list of some free image editing/conversion programs, though I haven't checked the links or programs personally... And here is Stroud's list of image editing software. Stroud's, if you don't already know, is a wealth of information for what are usually the better programs in almost any category for windows users. The site will give you ratings, information, pricing, and links to everything covered and can be a great help in finding something to suit your needs. Hope it helps -Kitty
clydeski
Been fooling around with the free oriens sw. I'm so ignorant on the subject I don't really have a clue what I'm doing but I am getting results. Thanks for all the great advice.
