Gerrard V -- Help!

I need some tactical help. I keep trying to do the Liberation of Gerrard V mission, but keep either getting blown up, or running out of time. The first problem I have is how to destroy the turrets. If I fly straight at them firing my blasters, they wind up hitting me at least one or two times before they blow up. Then the next shot that hits me destroys my ship. If I use missles, that solves the problem, sort of, because I only need to be flying straight for long enough to line up the target and release the missle. However, there are only eight missles! Not enough to destroy all the turrets. The other problem is the time factor. Does anyone have any tips for clearing the turrets more quickly?

HA ! An actual Rogue Squadron question !

Start off by linking your lasers in quad firing mode. This way, you only have to shoot once at the turrets to destroy them, thus giving them less time to shoot back. Learn where all the turrets are, and take them out as quickly as possible. Then come the AT-PTs. Take those out ASAP. What I usually did after is head straight for the "canyon" in the mountain. If you stick around the city after you've destroyed all the turrets / AT-PTs, you'll be called over there anyways. I just don't wait for the call, and go there right away. You should have 2 or more turrets in there, plus an AT-PT. Then hurry over to the second "city", and start taking out turrets. You might want to keep those torpedos for that big tower-turret at the back, because it is heavily armored. You'll get some more AT-PTs, and then a whole #?@? load of TIEs. Keep an eye out for those transports of yours, they can be taken out fairly quickly. Just chase the TIEs around, and you should be done and over.

-- Wow, I can remember all that crap and I havn't played the game in over a year. I need a life... A big one !

Good luck !

Thanks for the advice. I'm already getting blown up less quickly. It occurs to me that it might help if I had some of the power ups. I managed to pick up the one in Defection at Corellia -- it's seeking missles, right? -- but it doesn't seem to be available in Gerrard V. Maybe it's because I didn't finish that level with the same ship that picked up the power up. Or is there some special control combination you have to press to use the seeking missles? This game drives me nuts, but it's so addictive I can't stop playing it. Now all I think about is Rogue Squadron.

The trick to getting and keeping the missiles, like you suggest, is finishing the game and finding the bonus. They work this way: when you activate the missile button, the cross-hairs turn into a yellow diamond. When the missiles 'lock on,' a red icon pops up around the target and a singular type of noise is made. Press the button again, and the missile fires...it's hard to get used to. Unfortunately, those missiles won't be of much help to you on the 'Pink Hell' planet; they tend to lock onto the yachts, which you don't want blown up in the first place! The trick, I think, is using the Force.

Good luck! Don't go crazy!

Keep working at it

Hey those seeking missles are great! It just takes them forever to lock on, but if you don't get blown up first they really do the trick. How many should I save to destroy the big gun? (If I ever reach it.)

By the way, some of my friends have been telling me to "seek professional help." It sounds like a good idea, but I wasn't able to find anything on Rogue Squadron in the phone book or the local paper. Oh well. Onward!

There is no 'professional help' in Rogue Squadron...just shooters and targets. wink.gif

When you go after that big gun, you might be disappointed in your new missiles. It can take quite a while for your computer to lock on each missile, and you want to just shoot four or five of the danged things right now! Fortunately, there is a way around the lock-on feature--just press the missile button twice, quickly, and you can fire a missile without waiting for it to lock on. I think I played the game for a good month before I discovered that trick...

Have you gotten to the flying monkeys yet? biggrin.gif
