nacho35
OK, I hope I can explain my problem...To start, the only appearance 2DA file in my override folder is Orsan's Darth Maul. His character replaces the bald guy with the goatee you can pick from the game start. My problem is that I want to install Redhawke's new mod that also has its own 2DA. I have all the tools recomended in the mod sticky but my question is: What is the best way to combine these? If I want to copy the line from Orsan's mod that is Darth Maul, do I simply paste it into Redhawke's mod? (if so, what line do I overwrite?) Also, I am not sure what line in Orsan's mod 2DA the Darth Maul character is. I have read these forums for a while just never actually modded anything. My expertise is not in this area (hence my reluctance to jump into this) I know there are some great modders here and I would appreciate any advice/help you could offer. Mav
Well..... If you add RedHawkes line to Orsans it should be easier as long as the line that you add it to is row 509, I believe. Seeing as you don't know what row Orsans line is it is very hard to explain the best solution.

Unfortunately you cannot copy a line from one 2da file and paste it into another. You can open up both files, choose one as your primary, create a new line and manually copy each entry into its respective column. A word of caution though, if you are dealing with a mod that will be affected by the change, you may have to go in and edit other files. For instance you have to recruit mods that have custom appearance entries. The creators both used line 509 in Appearance.2da to add their stuff and now you want to combine the two. You would pick on of the files to be your primary, create line 510 and copy the other line 509 data into the new 2da. You would now have to go into the secondary recruit mod and change the Appearance entry from 509 to 510. Make sense? If not, let me know and I'll try again =)

Orsan's mod just replaces a character @ startup. Would they still use the same line 509?
Mav
It depends I could tell you but I need to see both of the appearence.2da files, post the link to Orsans mod and I'll tell you.

Would they still use the same line 509? Probably not. I was using recruit mods and line 509 of Appearance.2da as examples of things that you need to consider when trying to resolve mod file conflicts. I haven't used either of these mods so I can't tell you step-by-step what you would need to do.

Mav, here is the link: http://kotormods.t-k.ru/skins/darth_maul.htm The site is in Russian of course and I had to "experiment" to find this link. If you scroll down and highlight the area with the hammer it will download. I am pretty sure that he just substituted his Maul skin (which is pretty good BTW) for one of the original characters. If that is the case, shouldn't I be able to just add lines 509 thru 519 from Redhawke's 2DA file to the Maul 2DA?
Mav
Okay I downloaded file and there is two good news and one bad news, first the bad news for some reason I couldn't open the .2dafile with the KotOR Tool .2da editor, some inexplicable error, now good news one I was able to look at it using wordpad and it was actually completely clear, good news two there is no line 509 in Orsans mod so you can just look at RedHawkes Recruit mod line 509 and copy everything from there onto Orsans appearence.2da file and you'll be done, so at least now you don't have to worry about editing the appearence.2da file as well as several .utc files like I did to make the mod compatible. I have just combined what I need from Redhawke's mod. As far as that error goes, it did the same thing to me. The 2DA I was trying to open was Orsan's 2DA in my original "working" folder. Couldn't figure out why. Then I just opened the 2DA (Orson's) that was in my override folder and it worked. Its 3:00AM here and I don't even want to try and figure that one out! Thanks again!
