There is your misconception right there. Maybe you might buy a computer to do everything, but not everybody. I know a lot of people who just went out and bought pooters just for games and nothing else. As of this time, PC games are the best for multiple players. That I still agree on. But give it about 10 more years and you are going to see a major change. :)

Demos are not made for customers to judge whether or not to buy it, but to give them a taste of it and give them game play experience. If you want to see if you want to buy it, thats when you go to the store and look at it being played on a computer or rent it (They do that by me, dunno if they do that everywhere).

Of course demos are meant for customers to judge whether to buy or they wouldn't be made. I have never seen a store in the U.S. that rents pc software, most don't take returns on opened games, and most don't have whatever game you're interested in running on a computer there. So unless you get a warez version first, or see a friend's copy, the demo is all the firsthand experience you're going to get.

Probably it is just where I live, that is wierd. Demos are bait to get people to look at them to see how the game is played. Smart people will know not to fully judge a game on a demo because it is only a part of an unfinished game. ;)

Yeah, that's probably just on Earth. These aliens have a lot to learn :D (sorry, just had to, hehe).

Sigh..

1) Air Units. They move too slow, and are so unpowerful it's not funny. And what the hell is with standing right on top of a unit and throwing green stuff at them??? What's going on with that. Air units main ability is speed. They should be like Harriers from RA2. That is how air power should be. Fast and hit and run.

Because all you need to hit a base is a small amount of land units and a group of bombers. Send in the land siege units to take out the Anti-air, then have the bombers arrive to destroy the rest. For example: A city has a wall with Laser turrets and Anti-air cannons, both by the walls and inside the city. Move in with some troops and concentrate your fire on the Anti-air turrets. Then have your bombers move in and destroy the lasers and enemy ground-to-ground troops, while your siege units keep bombarding the Anti-air units to cover your bombers. Move into the city, using this strategy. You've won.

Besides, the only Air Units in the game are the earliest ones, and they're fast enough in my opinion. Any faster and they would have been hard to select. They hover in the air, you might say. Repulsor lifts. Didn't you really hate those buzzing fly-wannabe fighters in FoCom;) ?

2) Sea units. I don't know about anybody else, but what do sea units have to do with Star Wars? WHen you've got anti-gravity technology, what's the point of having ships? I saw some people get excited about this, but I mean really. Come on people, what on earth is the point of a ship to most races? Sure they need some to take down the gungans, but surely not as much as they do. Sea units just do not fit in with my idea of Star Wars, and are just wrong.

Because sea units

1) Are cool and

2) Were in EP1, at least that Gungan bongo sub :).

3) Were in AoK. Besides, without ships, it would be impossible to hit an island with Anti-air defense that was out of range for land units unless you sent an enourmous group of bombers in, like houndred more than the number of guns (and that's expensive, you know :D). Air transports? Blasted out of the sky. And then you would come here and rant about the game balance again . "Okay, if they're on their island, just let them be there. Standoff. They have to leave the island to attack us anyway".

Point 1. Only their army. Their Anti-air turrets wouldn't go anywhere.

Point 2. Yes, and what would you do about that? You think they would resign because you can't attack them while they can attack you?

Point 3. Monuments and Holocrons. In the full game, you can win a Standard game by winning and protecting a Monument (Wonder in AoK), or by gathering all the Holocrons on a level (at least you could in AoK). What do you do? The Monument won't come to you, you know ;).

3) Holocrons. How does garrisoning these give you nova crystals?

Because they needed a counterpart to the AoK relics. In AoK, not only do they give you crystals, you can also win the game by gathering all of them and keeping them for a while. Without them, a Standard Game element would be gone. What did you excpect them to do, give you Jedi (wouldn't mind if they did, tough ;)). ("Your holocron has spawned another servant.") Oh, come on, you're just like my brother whining on, "why do relics produce gold"? Because people are attracted to see bones from Jesus or a piece of the true cross or the underpants of Saint Peter or ....whatever! So they visit your town, and this gives you fame and wealth (altough you won't see all this, your gold level increases and it's all in the description of the relics in the game). Same with Holocrons. The owner learns about the ways of the force, including how to discover and extract those crystals. Hey, if you don't want them, don't collect them and leave them for your opponents, who would be glad for an extra nova boost to build a horde to crush you with :p.

4) I wasn't terribly impressed with the graphics either. Things just seemed not clear enough.

Read the "Serious confusion about Demo complaints" thread. Didn't you know it would be AoK graphics? I mean, seriously, I don't see how it can be possible to download a 69.99 MB file without looking at a single screnshot:p!? Also, do some research in the game. You can increase the resolution in the full version!

5) Shields. In everything I've ever read about shields, if they get hit their circumference decreases. In this game everything inside a shield gets a mini shield.

I know, the dome thing, but wouldn't that make a base impossible to destroy? Everything inside its dome is about impossible to destroy in ESB (not even a fleet of SDs, including the Executor, can destroy the base because of it!). Anyone could place five generators in the middle of their town and build everything around it, and cover the generators so that nothing could reach them. Voila -super race. If they did that, you would whine even more ("those shield generators are a serious threat to game balance and blah blah blah":barf: ).

1) Don't understand your argument about a small unit of troops and bombers at all. Are you agreeing or disagreeing? And if you've played RA2, you know that the aircraft get one attack with 1 missile, then come back to the airbase, where they can be selected again.

2) I can except the cool bit. And they weren't in episode 1, at least none of the combat ships. What we saw was a small personal run-about.

Just because they were in AoK is no reason to put them in SGB. They added lots of things that weren't in AoK, so why not take things out as well that just don't fit and/or aren't needed.

And as for attacking an island, repulsorlift technology should allow for tanks to float on over the sea and deposit troops, without the need for specific sea units

3) Don't put words in my mouth. I think I can say enough stupid things without you adding to them. :)

4) As for holocrons, see my paragraph just below point 2. Not that this is a major gripe, just a little minor one.

5) University T1 connection. I did look at screenshots. My problem was that everything just looked wrong. The buildings didn't seem very clear, and there just didn't seem to be enough contrasting colors.

6) Read my post properly. I was complaining about the demo, and saying what was wrong with it. When the full version comes out, many of these things probably won't be applicable anymore.

7) And no, if the dome size decreases, then buildings gradually become visible. And you can just walk straight through it anyway, so it's not like it's a super race. You just send in the troops (or jedi) to take out the shield generator

While we're on that, it would be pretty cool if a jedi/sith could go and sabotage a defensive building (turret or shield). Not very practical. But pretty cool.

And if holocrons have to give you something, they should reduce the price of jedi/sith, as they're more likely to come and study them. Or something along those lines. Just something to make it more believable.

And I'm not saying it's not fun, I'm just saying that these are things I would have changed if I'd designed the game. And I'm fairly certain (give the year and a half development time) that it probably could have been balanced that way. But that doesn't mean the game is bad. I'll judge it on the final version.

Although the demo will not work for me, from what I have heard from previews and comments is that the only thing in common with AOK is its engine.. This game adds lots of depth to the AOK engine like Air Units, shields, power cores etc..

Personally, I have never seen or played AOE or any related games. I only really like Sci-Fi games so this is my first time seeing the engine at work. So far the only thing I have to compare it to is Force Commander. Compared to FC, this game is holy. I played the demo and I think it is nifty and I don't mind how the air units hover, (Way easier to see and control than FC) but they could have a bit more life to them. I think it is great and I'm sure anybody who hasn't played AOE or the like will not notice any bad copies of existing thing, etc. After FC you can only get better.

Of course some of us are going to be *****ing about it. It's an insult that they expect us all to pay 50 bucks for a game thats is nothing more than an expansion.

DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN!! you are basing your assumptions on a KRIFFING demo! I'm trying to keep an open mind here, and I'll admit to being a little disapointed with the demo. But for stinking sake, don't go bashing the final game untill it comes out!!

(excuse my language of course)
