MadJeff
I tried to search the forum but for whatever reason the search function is shutdown. Makes it really hard to troubleshoot issues... Anyway, I digress. I see all kinds of discussion about internet issues, but how many have tried to play this on the local LAN? I can't even get a couple of XP boxes on my local LAN to connect properly, I just get the damn Host error. Scratch that, we actually did get to play one game after trying multiple times, but after the first map was won and the server switched to the next map, it again failed and I haven't got it to work since. I might be able to understand Inet troubles across my firewall, but when the LAN connection won't even work, that's just rediculous. Both machines are running XP w/SP2, with the SP2 firewall completely disabled. I've even tried my two XP pre-SP2 machines with the same results. This is really frustrating me to no end, as I purchased 2 copies so my son and I could play online together. So far it's been a real disappointment. Anybody have any luck with this on the LAN that could share any pearls of wisdom?
Firemann816
Jeff - I'm running XP Pro w/SP2 and that bloomin lame Microsoft bandaid of a firewall disabled, connecting to a Win2K server on my home LAN, and it works well. Maybe check that XP hasnt dl'd sp2 and if it has turn it off try try it on then write rules, etc if you can dl a demo port scanner from some shareware depot port scan your server, I dont know it off the top off my head but its posted here in the forums its like 3468 or something four digits and starts with a 3, I think its UDP not TCP, but I may be wrong about that as well. Check the Ded server admin forums we have beat this to death over there Cheers & gl - I hope you and your son get to play, I'd like to play some with my daughter, and the copy I burnt for my wife's box knew it was a copy and not the original

MadJeff
I should have been a little clearer I guess. I'm not running a dedicated server, just one player hosting and another connecting, both inside the LAN. Firewall is disabled on both boxes, so there is no reason ports should be blocked. I will run a test with my port scanner just to see however. Easy to do, as I do network security for a living... I think I will try throwing the dedicated host on one of my PowerEdge servers here at home however, might as well let it do the heavy lifting. I'll try it and see what happens. MadJeff
Still no dice here after a week. I dropped the server onto one of my 2003 servers and installed DX9.0c. I then tried to connect to the box with an XP SP1 workstation. No dice. There is absolutely nothing blocking the connection on either box, but after the map tries to load, I get the "Connection to host lost" message. I guess this game is going back on the shelf until they get the bugs worked out. I should have known better than to run down and pick it up the first couple of days after release, but I let my 8 year old talk me into it. Damn kids...
