Guest foxridge
I have a nice little problem. I am playing single player, and have gotten real far into the game (the mission where commander Zaletta claims asylum and then double crosses the rebels). I cannot get into the game in order to start it. When I click on the "play x-wing alliance" button on the start menu within the game, I get a small box that pops up, and it has the word "alliance" at the top, followed by a yellow symbol that looks like a yield sign with an exclamation mark inside it, and then that is followed by the statement "over here!", and then the "OK" button. When you click on the OK button, another message pops up that says "Error-please reinstall x-wing alliance from the original CD and try again".I think I know what brought on the problem, but I am not sure. I had relative's down for my son's graduation, and one in particular decided to load Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator from CD onto my hard drive. I believe he loaded an older version of Directx onto my computer (the version that came with the game). After finding out about this, I reloaded Directx 7.0 back into the computer, but it did not fix the problem. To my knowledge you cannot save games in XWA, so here is my question: what files can I save in a temporary folder, and then reinsert into the game after I have reloaded it so that I do not have to start at the beginning and get to where I am now. It took me a really long time to get where I am at, and I would like to keep playing from where I am versus the start of the game. Or are there any other solutions to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Foxridge
Guest Toscan
What you should do is save your PLT. that you use in XWA in a different folder while you re-install XWA. Then put it right back where you found it. It's as simple as that.
Guest Char_ly
There is also an option, when you uninstall the game, that allows you to keep safe your pilots.
Guest Thrawn
I had the same problem with direct X. When an older version has been installed over the latest version and you try to upgrade it again it really screws with your programs and systems. Nearly killed my computer. ------------------ "Have no fear, your local Grand Admiral is here!" ThRaWn90,RAL_Thrawn Rogue
