Has anyone noticed that when you are piloting a X-wing, for example, that even though you aren't equipped with a beam weapon your star fighter still diverts power away to the beam system. That just puzzles me.

Yeah, that has always boggled my mind as well. Why can u go faster when a beam is installed and its not charging then when you don't have a beam at all? As far as I'm concerned installing a beam is just a speed booster for your fighter...and maybe it'll get used once...maybe.

How did you come to that conclusion ? The cockpit graphics, maybe ? Even if that's the case and disgarding the fact that LAC had some "programming economy" when designing it, the beam weapon had been always an installable component, not a standard one. It's perfectly logical that since it is not install, it cannot drain energy.
