General Influence question

I'm quite confused about influence.

I see a lot of talk about influence gain/loss, but I dont get what it means.

I understand that gaining influence over your party members opens up dialog options because they like you, but does something similar happen if you lose a lot of influence over your party members?

 

For example,

if you are a jerk to the disciple and constantly lose influence with him,

will you not have the dialog options available that people who treated him nice have?

 

The strat guide, as well as numerous posts, make it sound like it, citing that you can talk about X if you have influence gain/loss.

 

Also, I have a hard time gaining influence with Bao-Dur. Any help would be tight

influince dose a few things it opens new options for talking and it if you have alot of influnce on lets say Jumper(made up character not actualy a character in the game) and your playing dark side then her phisyical features become eviler looking. Or if your on the light side then she will look happy and not so grim.

 

And from now on can yo plz..... not list charater names unless its it its in vBcode (for the peole that have not discovered the character yet)
