firewall software... if you open up a port you leave protection in place but allow you to keep playing the game... without port info you have to basicaly shutdown your protection to play the game...

Yeah I wanted to host a game for 3 other friends, but I couldn't figure out wich port was the one it was on so I could have all data on that port routed to the server.

I don't know about zortan but I myself don't know a tremendous amount about port scaning and other network watching which means it is easier to ask someone who is eather familiar enough with the tools to figure it out or who already knows (considering the fact that there are lucas arts employees that hit this forum sometimes).

I understand. My asumption was that if you were running a firewall you would know how to do it.

I would tell you how, but i only know how to do it on linux.

And sometimes port scaning can be considered illegal??? Maybe not, but i get the felling it is something you should not normaly be doing...

uh, actualy most of the firewalls that I am aware of do not do port scans in a way that you, as the user, can see. these firewalls btw are for windows... also in my case I was talking about personal firewalls (if that matters much)... lunix actualy has lots more power than windows (and is starting to get just as user friendly)...

Port Scanning in itself is not illegal, as long as the person who owns the system your scanning has given you permission to do so.

As for the port SWGB uses . . . its port 2234. This is the port reserved by the IANA for computers running DirectPlay (a part of Direct x )

Open that port on your firewall /system and you should be able to get out.

Ohh I'm sorry i didn't read carfully. If there would have been a linux version I would have found it quick true but i could just have used netstat in Win2K to find the port. DOH!. sorry I need to pay more attention.

Ever have one of those weeks?
