Murf
When your in the game you can have it log into gamespy or choose to play online without logging in to gamespy. Is there any reason TO log into gamespy (other than if you want your stats kept)?
Darth Sinical
I don't have an answer for you, Murf. Personally, I don't use GameSpy and avoid it when I can. I don't log into Gamespy and have had no complaints. For connections to games, I use the in game browser and/or All Seeing Eye.
Murf
"All Seeing Eye", I'm not familar with that. Is that software, or are you making a joke referring to LOTR?
Darth Sinical
All Seeing Eye is a fantastic program that you can download for free that will facilitate connecting to any game. Basically, it acts like the in-game browser or Gamespy, except it's not intrusive, and you can set up your own custom filters. For example, when I flip on All Seeing Eye, it shows me Battlefront filters set to my own specifications, such as all servers running version 1.2, with a ping of less than 250 ms, no password required, team damage turned off, with at least 10 people on the server or 5 or more humans if there are bots enabled. It's one of the best downloads you can make if you're into multiplayer games. In Battlefront it's not as important because a) the in-game browser works pretty well on its own, b) for some reason All Seeing Eye doesn't always see everyone on the Battlefront server, and c) Battlefront doesn't have that many servers to pick from, so browsing yourself is a lot easier. But for games like Battlefield, where there are thousands of servers with options out the yin yang All Seeing Eye is a must considering that Battlefield's in game browser is horrible enough to bring a grown man to tears. If you're interested, check it out over at UDP, but it got bought out by Yahoo. http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/ase/register Just click on the download button. For 99% of the public, there's nothing in the full registered version that you'll miss unless you have a bunch of friends. Ahh yes, that's the other thing, you can put people's names in, so when they show up, it will let you know that they're in a game, and show you which server they're on. Give it a try. It's a great program.
Murf
cool, thanks for the info. It sounds like a program called DFBHDpinger that I use to connect to Black Hawk Down, but it's just for BHD only.
