Yet another technical problem involving WinXP

I recently decided to show Grim Fandango to a friend, but when I tried to run it on my computer I had some problems.

The first time it ran quite well, with some soft noises in the background during the intro. During gameplay, sound was OK. It lasted until the trip to the land of the living, the cutscene crashed the game. The second time it worked until another random video scene. Second crash.

From then on I'm getting major problems in every cutscene. The speed of those is now really slow and sound has begun stuttering (or echoing constantly). Some times it still crashes, but it seems completely random.

My processor is an AMD XP 3000+, sound card is a Sound Blaster Live!, video card is an ATI Radeon 9800.

The problem remains after installing the patch and changing sound acceleration in dxdiag. Compatibility modes don't help either.

I don't know what else I should try :S

Any ideas?
