General Pace of Galactic Conquest

First off, yes i'm new. Hello all :-).

I was just wondering if anybody knew how the Galactic Conquest mode is going to work in terms of gameplay. I think it'll make or break how interesting the game is depending on if its turn-based or if its real-time.

I've seen a couple videos, one in particular i saw it looked like it was infact real time, or something near realtime, a man making very rubbish jokes like "We all know who the guy in the black cape is, thats Batman" was demonstrating how to build a deathstar and eventually used it to destroy Alderaan, in the video he said the credits racked up incredmentally (and you could see them counting up rapidly) and that the research was much faster than normal... which leads me to believe its not turn based.

However, if its not turn based... how are battles handled? For example what happens if in a Galaxy which is 40 planets wide you and your enemy attack 2 different planets each at once? Is it going to give you a warning sound and be like "You are under attack on Tattooine" and give you the option of loading into fight or the AI fights for you? or is it going to just instantly load you into the first fight which occours?

I've also heard in the stratagy threads people talking about controling there ground forces whilst fighting in space... i thought this was impossible as in an interview i read long ago they said that space and ground would be completley seperated whilst fighting.

So does anybody know for sure? Is EAW Conquest mode turn-based with real-time combat like Rome: Total War or is it all real-time?

The whole galaxy is real time. Remember, you won't always be in combat so you'll spend time building up defences, managing mines/resource income and plotting your strategy.

When you do engage in combat, the galactic map pauses so you can handle that battle. As for the video, everything was faster and certain elements were increased so the game could be shown off. Otherwise you would have to wait until you had enough resource to build anything.

All the videos we have seen (not including trailers) are set like this and it wont be like that in the final game.

Welcome to the forums and merry christmas!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I knew all of the elements where speeded up, other than the fact the guy insessently reminded you for fear you where a n00b, it was pretty obviously how he built a deathstar instantly, lol.

However, what happens if your under attack in two places at once? how is it decided which takes priority? Also do you know if once a space battle i won you immidiately continue onto the land battle? And one last question, how is the army used to take a planet transported - and can the transport ships be destroyed in orbit in the battle before the planet surface is taken?

Slightly off topic i know but i'd rather post them here than in a 1-sentance thread.

One battle will follow the other. Like in Total War. You cant fight two battles in two different places at the same time. I am not certainly about the ground battles place after space combat.

I would imagine that the attacker would have an option to either blockade or wait before doing a ground assault in case they didnt have enough ground units.
