Guest Zoom Rabbit Posted January 29, 2001 Posted January 29, 2001 Philology debate! Yippee! A Nubian is, yes, from Nubia...which is a region to the south of ancient Egypt. Here. On Earth. Several thousand years ago. So. Obviously, when Watto comments on the 'Nubian' ship, he isn't saying that the ship was built by bronze age mechanics from the Sudan (all of which are, supposedly, far in the future from the time of Star Wars.) The term he's using appears to be a handy rearranging of the awkward word 'Nabooian,' which fits less handily into everyday speech. I suppose the correct spelling would be 'Noobian,' but spelling it 'Newbian' is much more amusing for our purposes here. No bronze age space cruisers, please. So, what do you think BJ? BJ...? Aw. We scared him off.
