[MOD] EAW: Open Conflict

Hello again,

 

I spent the whole weekend playing you MOD (older version 0.8d). I have some questions and suggestions, if I may.

 

1) I played the GC as the Empire on hard. The ground combat is REALLY a challenge. The biggest problem I found was that the initial landing spot allows you only 3-4 units capacity. Which allows only 1-2 AT-ATs. They do not have a chance against speeders, Plex slodiers and artillery atacking at once. But I think the strategy of superior numbers started to work and I can instantly replace the loses.

 

2) I thought there is Mara Jade in GC, but I have never got her. Why?

 

3) In every land battle I fought I saw 2 Kyle Katarns fighting me. But I think it is the problem of the game not the mod as I saw 2 Han Solos and 2 Chewbaccas in unmodded game as well.

 

4) Yesterday I tried the GC for the Rebels and I thought what the hell. It is so easy. First the AI does not build lvl2 and more space stations. It even seems not to build capital ships. Is there some way to tell AI to build something? The second problem is that I can take 9 units to make a raid. So I take all my heroes (Han, Chewie, Kyle and Ben Kenobi) + some speeders and Infiltrators I have a nearly invincible army which is not limited by the unit capacity of the "normal" landing. Can you please make the limit back to 3 units?

 

When I finsh the current GC I am looking forward to test the new MOD version.

Can someone tell me which XML and which line(under wt title) is responsible for the main story campaign of the empire(not GC) about things such as starting units?I could only find the GC ones in the campaign_singleplayer.XML (maybe i'm just missed it) This editting should be easy (i'll make a back up of course) so i want to try and do it myself.

It would of course be better if you used the latest version since some of the things you mention have already been changed (like the rebel Arty and PLEX not doing as much damage to AT-ATs anymore).

She's only availabe in space skirmish... but that's a good idea... I'll add her to the imperial roster.

Again, see if this problem persists in the latest version. If so it's not my fault ;)

Sadly I have not found a way yet to tell the AI any build priorities. I think that is hidden in the LUA scripts to which we have no access. As for the raids... they were purposely set that high. But I think I will restrict them to infantry only and that heroes can not be brought for free.

 

 

Edit: About Mara Jade... did she always fly a Z-95 or did she get it when leaving the empire (fall of the empire)?

I'd try CAMPAIGNS_MAIN.XML or CAMPAIGNS_STANDARD.XML... but that's only a guess, I haven't tried it yet.

I'd try CAMPAIGNS_MAIN.XML or CAMPAIGNS_STANDARD.XML... but that's only a guess, I haven't tried it yet.

The Empire has a few heroes compared to the Rebels. So thank you for adding Mara to the GC. I think a modified Z-95 shoudl be O.K. for her.

 

Hmm, the A.I. seems to be unmodable now. I hope it will chage soon as the A.I. (or the lack of it) is really killing the game.

I would suggest finishing your current game first for some of the changes made might mess a few things up (tech levels changed i.e.).

 

The raid groups have now been restricted to infantry only and you may take only 1 hero with you who in addition is not for free anymore. This might be a little drastic but we'll have to see how this works. If it's too strict I'll have to losen it up a little again, but a strong hero (Han/Chewy or Ben) and some elite troops should be able to do some damage. Afterall it's supposed to be challenging and with infantry only it looks more like an Endor-style raid party ;)

 

Mara has a shuttle right now (modified though) due to a few suggestions made in this thread... I wonder where that came from, any ideas? I'm not very familiar with Mara's background so perhaps someone can enlighten me when she flew an imperial shuttle.

Thank you again. It is really good to see a modder (you) changing his mod based on players suggestions. I will try to finish my current Imperial campaign as soon as possible and try the new version.

 

These raid changes sound reasonable. In an unmoded game I used Ben Kenobi and 2 units of Infiltrators. And it is exactly as you say. The Endor is a good example of using raids. I am looking forward to try it.

 

About Mara. Hmm, I have not read all the books but from what I have read I can not tell what ship she used. But I think she should have some fighter available. A modified Z-95 or V-Wing may be O.K.

Alright, I scrapped her shuttle (behaved awfully anyway) and gave her a modified Z-95. She's much more of a challenge now, though not as good as Katarn (due to the Z-95 beeing a relatively small ship she can't take as much damage).

 

also changed:

- all red squadron members are now of the same scale (slightly larger only than the average X-Wing)

- the red squadron additions (6 fighters to get a squad of 12) are now also more durable (Vader's escort TIEs are much more durable than standard TIEs as well)

- reduced damage output of the Falcon

- Mara Jade added to the GC maps, spawning at tech 2, together with Boba Fett

Adonnay: I asked this earleir, but didn't get a response... Do you know how to change what level station and/or how may ground slots planets have?

Sorry... I have read it but since it wasn't really mod-related I kinda forgot about it. You might want to check the file "PLANETS.XML"... there's two entries that look as if they do what you are looking for:

<Max_Space_Base>4</Max_Space_Base>

and since there's no equally named tag for land bases it might be

<Special_Structures_Land>3</Special_Structures_Land>

for the ground base level. Just play around with it and you'll see... for I haven't changed anything in the PLANETS file yet and can't tell you for sure.

- 1.0b: changed Mara Jades ship to a more potent Z-95 and activated her for the GC (tech 2)

- 1.0b: changed the raid specifications: up to 8 infantry units max, may include 1 hero (not for free)

- 1.0b: reduced damage output of the Falcon

- 1.0b: the red squadron additions (6 fighters to get a squad of 12) are now also more durable (Vader's escort TIEs are much more durable than standard TIEs as well)

- 1.0b: all red squadron members are now of the same scale (slightly larger only than the average X-Wing)
