error running emp. tomb

yes the game installs on my comp. (xp).when i try to run it , i get an error saying cannot intake d3d.make sure you have directx 8.1 or later (which i do),and check your video card to make sure it supports transfomation and lighting.i know my card does'nt support transformation and lighting directly.though i've been able to run other games that require t&l.is there any way to run this game even if it does'nt run smoooth or fast.
