I had problems with running grim fandango with xp and i just got it started for the first time using Grim Fandango Launcher by Bgbennyboy Version 1.3.1, from http://quick.mixnmojo.com. Unzip and start the launcher, chose windowed mode (i also used 'play from harddrive'), then when in the game hit F1, go to options, 3d hardware setup and chose "primary monitordriver" (or something; my english really sucks). (of course you can play it in windowed too if you want; the last steps is just if you'd like fullscreen) try it. i still have problems with the sound thou (it works in cutscenes but not in the game.) but im working on it. c ya

ok. now it works. it was as easy as changing grimfandango.exe to win98 compability.

edit:

been playing a bit now and some problems shows up similar to others here on the forum. sound and picture is choppy in some sequences and there are problems saving and loading in fullscreenmode. different compability settings gives different reslutlts but ill write again when it works smooth.

edit2:

ok. now thanks to emus imagecfg the sound and video runs really good. Here it is by the way:

This has been addressed in other posts but it isn’t quite clear. There are two ways to correct the hyper threading (HT) problem with Grim Fandango:

1. While the game is running go into task manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) , click on “Processes” tab, right click on GRIMFANDANGO.EXE, left click on Set Affinity, uncheck CPU 1 box and then click OK. (This doesn’t work sometimes)

2. Patch the GRIMFANDANGO.EXE using imagecfg.exe. Here’s how:

a. Download imagecfg.exe at (Thanks to both sites for providing this):

http://www.reality-xp.com/support/knowledgebase/nr/rsc/imagecfg.zip

or

http://www.death-web.com/files/imagecfg.zip

b. Place imagecfg.exe into same directory as GRIMFANDANGO.EXE (usually C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Grim).

c. Create a backup of the GRIMFANDANGO.EXE (copy and paste it somewhere else)

d. Open command prompt (Click on start menu, left click “run…”, type cmd)

e. Change directory to the same directory that GRIMFANDANGO.EXE and imagecfg.exe are now in, for example type: cd C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Grim

f. Type the following: imagecfg -a 0x1 GRIMFANDANGO.EXE this will patch the executable file so that it runs on one CPU.

Have fun I hope it works.

But the game still crashes every now and then when a videosequence is about to begin. Don't really know how to fix this. Anyone?

So right now im running with the Grim Fandango Launcher, By Bgbennyboy

(http://Http://quick.mixnmojo.com), from harddrive, with imagecfg tweak, and windowmode (because of the fullscreencrashes)
