Rufio
Alright, since frenchy has her rants and feral has his news letter, being the resident punk, im gonna give u guys come culture, like it or not! this may come in the form of cd reviews, story's of the many concerts i go to, etc, basically whatever punkness i feel that u should all know about dont like punk? then dont read this, but im sure i can reach out to a few of you out there This week: CD Review: The Alakaline Trio - Frome here to Infirmary. The alkaline trio's newest release is amazing. Im a huge fan of their melodic post hardcore sound (emo) but unlike their first three albums, this one is much less depressing. Raging guitars, puncking basslines, to the totall opposite with some slower songs, this cd 0wns. the vocals are a bit different then other releases, and there is an acoustic version of their older song snake oil tanker. chances are that none of you (and if any, VERY few) have heard of this powerful team of guys, but i think that punk fans or not u should check them out. power tracks: 1, 5, 7. rating: 9/10 Concert Talk: The ataris/nerf herder/no motiv: last night i speant a piddling $12 to go to a show at our local venue the nile. It was definatly worth it. i have seen the ataris 4 times before and no motive once before, but i mainly went to see nerf herder this time around. i was not dissappointed in the least, the 2nd song of nerf herders set the singer pulls me on stage and gives me the mic and i get to sing the opening to "vivian". it was the COOLEST!! no motiv put on a great set, and the ataris played the same track list as the last three times (ending with SDHS footbal rules, go figure) all in all it was an awesome evening, and i got home just in time to get 6 hrs of sleep! ------------------ This image geoshitty...geocities free since 24 Feb, 7:46pm
Guest murta
Cool reviews, i'll look forward to the next one. You're right, never heard of The Alakaline Trio. The concert sounded pretty darn cool. Doubt this very much, but you ever heard Lost Prophets? They're a UK band, not really punk, but a mix of all sorts of rock with punk influences in some songs, if not, get Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja, it's a rather amazing song. Purple Tentacle
great idea nfgb, although i'll be very impressed if u can write that much weekly. Guest Brighteyesmonkey
I'm in England the original home of the punk. But my fav band is Blink182! As they like to call themselves "a nearly punk band". I don't know if you've heard of it but The Reading Festival. Their playing there live!! Along with Eminem, Hopefully the Manics and Coldplay, AND MY MATES NEW BAND!! He's only been in it a month and they've got a big name manager and record label and been asked to play at Reading!! WOW! Some achievment. So look out for "THE SCREAMING BEAVERS"! (I think they want to change the name though) ------------------
Guest murta
I've heard of The Screaming Beavers I think. I find it hard to undertsand how you can like Blink and Eminem/Coldplay/Manics (the last two aren't bad, but Eminem - come on!!!) Should be going to Reading myself, especially if Blink 182 are there. *Trying not to sound like a prick* The Sex Pistols, weren't the first punk band, they just released the first 'punk' single, developed the whole punk lifestyle and made it ALOT more popular. Punk actually came from some old American hippies, looking for something different. Punk has developed quite alot and i sometimes cringe at the some of the old punk stuff, but i suppose without it we wouldn't have all these great bands today. Anyways, will you be getting "Take Off Your Pants And Jacket" Brighteyes? I've got all the Blink albums so far, including both versions of Buddha . How aboot you? Rufio
you are both wrong, no one started punk, it just spontaneously brok out, (and if anyone did, it was the ramones in the new york underground) go rent the movie SLC punk, u'll be enlightened. and blink 182??? punk?? hardly!! they are nothing but a crappy pop band that is in the biz for nothing more than the cash and the fame, thats not what punks about at all. ------------------ This image geoshitty...geocities free since 24 Feb, 7:46pm
Guest murta
*ATTENTION, NONE OF THIS IS INTENDED TO BE OFFENSIVE* NOOOOOOO, NFGB are you "hardcore punk"? (hope not ) I know loads of peeps from chat rooms who call themselves hardcore punks, who call every band who gets anywhere near the charts sell-outs. You can't blame Blink 182 for selling singles/albums. I know some of their songs sound poppy, but that's their style and most people who are REAL fans (not pop fans who hear it and think it's funny/like the video) will know more than All The Small Things, What's My Age Again and Man Overboard. The bands need to make some money and you can't target them for making more. If punk was all about the music, then it would die because there would be no money in it to fund it. Most punks bands (including Blink) encourage the use of Napster). BTW The Ramones, were before The Sex Pistols (who i hate), and a lot closer to the punk of today. Punk did start simultaneously in a lot of places, but it did originally derive from some garage bands, experimenting with rock and then joining together sharing ideas. Guest Brighteyesmonkey
NFGB, I know Blink isn't very punk, thats why they call themselves "nearly punk".England may not have created the punk music. But we definatly created the look. The pink hair, leather jackets, chains and stuff. (like vivian out of the young ones). Murta, I've got Enema of the state, Buddha (the new one), and Dude Ranch. I've been trying really hard to get The Mark,Tom and Travis Show. But here in Engalnd their not very popular. Eminem, well I think Eminem is a bloody good song writer apart from some of the lyrics. Ok sure I like the crazy stuff he says but "killing his wife"! Theres no need for that. It's the **** like that that puts me off him. The Bloodhound Gang are the same. Hang on why have I been writing like your in America "your english" DOH! Sorry it's been a long day. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Brighteyesmonkey (edited March 06, 2001).]

Purple Tentacle
Whats wrong with the Bloodhound Gang Brighteyesmonkey??? as long as you don't take them too seriously their lyrics are (dare I say it) actually very clever, and pretty funny. ------------------ Have you ever walked through a room But it was more like the room passed around you Like there was a leash around your neck that pulled you through
Guest murta
Brighteyes: Is there a Virgin Megastores/HMV near you? I picked up Buddha, Enema of the State and The Mark, Tom and Travis Show from Virgin, Dude Ranch from HMV and Chesire Cat from a mate. Guest Brighteyesmonkey
Yeh i've been to a v store. They've deleted it. I can't find anyone who stocks it anymore. I live in the South East,(next to the isle of Sheppy, a place England tries to froget it has) So they obviously think no one will buy it down here. DIVS! Purple i do like the Bloodhound Gang, i've got the album. It's just I get a bit embarrised walking down the road with my headphones blaring out "tr y to ryhme a, word like vagina". It's not the best thing for people to hear. Although JC Elaine I love to blast out at em!! MUWAHAHAHA ------------------

BoneMaster
punker NFGB: Tell me your opinions of these bands. -Bad Religion -Green Day -Millencolin -NOFX -Snuff -Laqwagon You might have said something earlier but i haven't read all you posts. Guest Brighteyesmonkey
Yeh but if you get fame or money. People change, it's human nature. True blink cant sing live but then nost of the best bands cant. I cant comment on the concerts i havent seen them live yet. I love the childish side of it. I'm not a big fan of the real you know head banging stuff. Blink for me provide the gap between the types of music I like. I like the heavy guitar stuff, but then I dont like the REALLY heavy stuff. So they are my middle men. ------------------

Thanks. ] bad religion, though i really do not like thir music, they have been very true to the punk genera, their cd suffer is the best i think. green day, they used to be REALLY awesome when they started out on lookout records, and then dookie was a good cd as well, but after that they started to decline, with nimrod being the worst cd they rel;eased and warning being WAY too light and different than the old green day i remember, once again this is also not one of my fav bands. millencolin, possibly the best thing to ever come out of sweden, they continue to produce quality music with a little bit of comical edge to it. their best cd is life on a plate, and their newest, pennybridge pioneers is just a good. they play great live, and throw quality parties. NoFX, for those who know little, and wonder what the name means, it stands for NO ****ING STRAIGHT EDGE. they are one of the true punk bands, along with the descendents/all, that have been the longest running punk band that is/are still like the newer bands coming out these days. they have tons of albums, and after the album "s+m airlines" everyone is worth the listen. best song would be stickin in my eye, and they totally 0wn in concert (seen tghem 3 times). fat mike and el hefe are 2 of the coolest guys ever, and fat mike is the owner/founder of fat wreck chords, (although i cant see why he then releases cds on the epitaph label??) snuff, pass lagwagon, one word, HOSS!! joey is an amazing guy, his vocals are great, the music is sweet, and they have been aroun the block and back. their album double pladinum was the first i listened to, then i got duh, hoss, and lets talk about feelings. all of the songs are awesome and i have to say that the best is "want" off the album lets talk about leftovers. joey owns the new record label MY RECORDS, and is currently in a side band called bad astronaut. man thats alot of opinion, and for only like 4 bands i enjoy, think if i revied all of the musical talent i listen to, all 200 bands. WOW. ------------------ This image geoshitty...geocities free since 24 Feb, 7:46pm
Guest murta
Hey!! What's wrong with Snuff? Swamp boogie is the best style ever! I'd say Nimrod is Greenday's best album ever (but i'm not just into punk, but all sorts of rock). After recently seeing GD live (in Dec)(they put on one helluva show), I was even more convinced. I know what you mean about the Britney/Sisqo thing, I've put up with all sorts (YMCA and Hey Mickey come to mind), but with a big venue, this is most likely down to either the venue owners/the band manager. However, if a pop song comes on, everyone (without their head stuck up their arse, like my mate Paul) thinks it's funny and starts 'dancing' , after all, we're there for a good time. GD aren't sellouts, they still refuse to censor any songs on TV. I agree that Warning is alot softer/more mainstream than the other albums, but it's still got some good songs on. I agree with pretty much everthing else. More opinion, what do you think of: - Hi-Standard - Pennywise - Fenix TX - MXPX - Any Skank bands
the_xxxxx
What the heel is wrong with: -The bloodhoundgang? They are absolutly great! I know you can hardly call it music, But there lyrics are absolutely fantastic (I need to find a new vigina/any kinda new vigina/it's hard to rhyme a word like vigina/Calkin Clein kinda South Carolina)! -Eminem? OK he's pretty arrogant but he makes geat music. He's not the best white rapper though, that award has to go to the Beasty Boys. -Green Day? They still make great music -Nfgb? Why's he ****ing on all groups he doesn't like? OK my single of the week: Buck Rogers - Feeder (probably spelled wrong) And what do the ladies (Frenchys & Natty) like? More opinion, what do you think of: - Hi-Standard - Pennywise - Fenix TX - MXPX - Any Skank bands ok i never said GD were sellouts, i just said their quality declined as the years passed, ok hi-standard: they have some good songs, but that guys voice gets on my nerves after awhile, not much else to say i dont listen to them much. pennywise: a TRUE punk band who refuses to give in to the temptation of fame. after straight ahead came out and started being played on the radio, they told stations not to play anymore of their songs, and they didnt let any of it go to their head. every one of their albums is awesome, about time being the best in my opinion and the best song being from that album, called waste of time. check out their live album, not the best of their live stuff but really good. fenix tx, another band that went the same rout of blink, but are trying to redeem themselves. not many people know that they were once named river fenix, but after loosing a lawsuit they had to change thir name. i think they were way better as river fenix, and its too bad they changed their style. best song.....the death metal song mxpx: one of THE best religious affiliated punk bands, only tied with slick shoes and maybe a few others. they wowed me with their first cd pokinatcha, than again with teenage politics and then life in general. thir cover songs are great and well done, summer of 69 is my fav song, and they do very well live. skank bands, like ska, well the best i can think of is catch 22, i love them they are the best, they put on the best live act i have ever seen from a ska band. there are some other "skacore" bands i like, like link 80, voodoo glow skulls, less than jake, etc, but this is too long and i need to stop. ------------------ <marquee>This image geoshitty...geocities free since 24 Feb, 7:46pm</marquee> if school were a pimp, i'd be it's bitch.
