punk culture week 3

man, it was dead last week but maybe it'll be better this time around.

this week a cd review of not one but 2 cds i recieved in the mail over the weekend from pre-order.

Dashboard Confessional: The places you have come to fear- Vagrant records.

Now im usually not into the softer emo type stuff but this man is amazing! after wowing me with his first release "swiss army romance" and then tiding over my craving for more with "the drowning EP" Chris and his acoustic guitar have done it again.

the places u have come to fear is just as good, if not better than, as his first album and despite the hasstle of changing record companies from drive thru to vagrant he produced a killer cd. there are 8 totally new songs and re-makes of his two best off of his first album.

songs like "saints and sailors" and "this bitter pill" are just as inspiring as everything from past releases, and u can tell that chris definatly put some heart into his lyrics. not to mention that this guy can still rock it out on his Acoustic guitar.

the best song, seeing as that it has been my favorite and its on this record re-done with some background drums, must be "screaming infidelities"

overall i would rate it a 92%, just a tad bit lower than his first which i reviewed for another webpage at 94%

Frenzal Rhomb: Shut your mouth- fat wreck chords.

If there has been one thing that disappointed me this week, it must have been recieving this new record with great hopes and having those hopes be SHOT DOWN!!!

this record is by far the worst out of all the frenzal rhomb albums. the songs are not nearly as rich and funny as previous ones, they included a shoddy version of "war" off of an old EP, and the vocals do not sound anywhere near what i am used to.

if these austrailians are trying to do something differnet to sound more "____" they faild miserably. i'd like to see them go back to the "meet the family" days when their records were FAST FUNNY and FURIOUS!

this cd did have a few good tracks, but as i only listened to it once and then hid it away where no one could see, i cant remember which ones they were.

RIP frenzal rhomb's old sound, hello cheezy aussie radio pop music??

rating: 62% (because this cd will force them to tour the US wink.gif and then i can see them live agian)

i think the reason u don't get much response to the punk culture is because its hard to respond to... i mean u review pre-releases that most people can't easily get hold of, so we can't really comment on your reviews. it probably gets read by many, but few will have heard of the bands. anywayz nice work but i think u should've listened to the frenzal rhomb cd more than once before putting it down like that

Have you ever walked through a room

But it was more like the room passed around you

Like there was a leash around your neck that pulled you through
