Ambrose
This is the second of my two poems for the school lit magazine. Initially, it was an assignment in English in which we had to pick a news article and write a poem based on it. Full article: http://www.mcnews.info/mcnewsinfo/moh/ Again, not my best work, but I hope you enjoy it! As always, comments and criticisms are welcome. Jason, my son, how I thought that I knew you Your childhood joys still rest fresh in my mind But son, how could we? Here on safe soil, Know anyone who truly is willing to die? We heard them speak for you, son, in the news We heard them rowdily cry, “bring them home!” But son, know that their words now ring empty Your choice was for honor; your choice was your own. Oh Jason, The regal blue Medal adorned on your grave Can never, ever replace what you’ve lost But son, now I know you, the true warrior’s heart You gave all for America and demanded no cost. We’re proud of you, son, and never to be ashamed You did what we’ll never have courage to do You’d have no regrets, my son, this we know Your life may be gone, but your soul still ensues In the glorious annals of the Proud and the Few And in our hearts, my son, for we so love you. My son, I’ll always remember you dearly And I’ll always, always believe “The old Lie” That dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. You believed it son; and thus so shall I.
