CIAop
Dumb question alert:: I am in the market for a new machine. I've been playing EAW on my gateway laptop with an integrated video card....not desirable. I have a few questions that will display my limited knowledge of computers. I hope someone can enlighten me. 1. Will EAW be compatible with DirectX 10 and/or the video cards that will be coming out that DX10 supports? 2. I've heard questionable things about Vista for gaming (i.e. it is a memory hog and has glitches with many games). Is there any truth to this? Should I opt for XP on my new machine? 3. The new machine I am looking at will have 2GB of Ram, an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ processor and a 256mb NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 video card. Is this card discrete as opposed to integrated? Would it handle EAW nicely? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Guest DarthMaulUK
The game should work well, but you might need to make adjustments - which are simple. Despite what people say, Vista is NOT the savier of pc gaming but has created so many problems for thousands of people. EaW runs fine on my Vista monster - Intel Duo core E6600, GT8800 GTX, 4GB RAM Examples are - More people drop out of game with memory issues, some games wont work on Vista etc. Users are partly to blame. They get Vista and do not upgrade their PC, so they will have problems. Background programs, such as itunes, sends Vista in to a fit sometimes. Advice - NEVER get an integrated card. Intel are doing this with their crappy PCs and it WILL limit you in the futher. If possible, try and get an extra GB of RAM. Vista uses 1 GB alone! I assume the 8600 DDR3 is NOT an integrated card? I think I"ll stick with XP based on everything I'm hearing.
