Wasp77
Ugh. First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong area. I see other questions relating to this, so I assume, and hope, I'm right. I finally get a chance to play KOTOR on the PC with mods, and what happens? I find some way to botch it up so I can't use mods. I did it all; I installed the game in about twenty minutes or so, installed 7-zip, and downloaded a mod. Since I'm almost clueless when it comes to computers, I decide to click "Extract" on 7-zip itself. I accidentally extracted the program's files all over again, so I deleted it all and reinstalled. Little bit of a lesson learned there. Anywho, I thought you went to 7-zip to extract the files, not to the mod itself. BIG mistake. I go back to my newly re-installed 7-zip and choose extract again. I spot the Override folder and type it in. No change to the game, and the Override folder deleted itself somehow. It took the contents of the SWKotOR folder with it, eliminating swkotor.ini. To top it all off, they're not in the Recycle Bin currently. I may have deleted them from there without knowing, or it happened on its own. Distraught and aggravated, I uninstall KOTOR and reinstall it, but somehow, it kept its same empty folders and didn't make a new version, or at least replace the content. Do I need to reinstall the game a third time? Do I have to delete the empty program file folder so it will be replaced upon reinstallation? Do I have to do something else I am unaware of? Thanks to anyone who can help with this. I fear I may be condemned to a life of KOTOR without mods, as something new goes wrong for me every time. The only time I've successfully played KOTOR is on the Xbox (360, to be exact), and I will not, even if it were legal, attempt to mod that. Adelphus
So if I get what you're saying, you say extracting a mod with 7-zip deleted your entire folder? I'd suggest try looking around again to make sure you have the correct directory, if that is the case; however strange it may be. You should delete the game folder, do a clean install and extract the mod to a separate folder, from there copy the contents to the override folder so as to not risk anything. Wasp77
XD Sorry, I should have been more specific. I extracted 7-zip's files (As in 7-zip itself) into the Override, and then the file vanished completely. I can't exactly remember now, as it happened a few hours ago, and alot has gone on since then, but the folder containing "swkotor.ini" vanished as well. I've searched over and over, but they're gone. I just made a new Override, and opened the mod before extracting, but it seemed to be the same. I haven't checked in the game yet, but maybe it'll work. As for "swkotor.ini", the game runs without it. Granted, I only played as far as when Trask first greets you and you gain the ability to control your character, but it ran. I planned on using the "giveitem" cheat, but I guess I won't, unless I need to reinstall. If the mod won't work this go-around, I'll do what you recommend, Adelphus. However, I do think the reason the mod didn't work is because I extracted at the wrong time. As I said, I need to confirm if it will work after opening it with 7-zip and extracting from there. Thanks for the tip. I'm surprised the game didn't overwrite its folder, but it should hopefully create a new one if it's deleted. I'm going to delete EVERYTHING associated with KOTOR. EDIT: No such luck. Giving your suggestion a try. EDIT 2: Haven't deleted or uninstalled yet, but I did make a new Override folder in "SWKotOR" instead of "LucasArts". I'm such a jackass. Adelphus
Yea, that should do the trick for you. Best of luck
Wasp77
I need to look around on this forum a bit more, I put this in the wrong place. Anyways, I got the mod up, but the loss of the folder containing "swkotor.ini" is still apparent. I'll just reinstall it after deleting the folder, and hopefully everything will be normal.
