Black Screen of death

Alright the answer is probably right under my nose but I haven't caught the sent yet, I've searched through the forums and google the best thing I can come up with is to patch but I have a copy of kotor from The Best of PC so I should not patch from what I've researched.

 

Ok then lol my problem is when ever I start up kotor it'll play the LA logo and bioware's logo wonderfully then when it gets to the menu a black screen. Now I can still hear music and move my mouse over something that makes noise so I'm guessing the game is running fine it's just not showing up.

 

I've tried changing my screen resolution, uninstalling and reinstalling several times, ctrl+alt+delete(which works for closing the game but doesn't fix the problem), I've tried configuring every setting every possible way for the last 2-3 hours and nothing seemed to work. (I'm very persistent.)
