Game Freezes, Have to hard boot.

I'm going crazy!!!!!!!! Monkey Island keeps freezing up!!!! It happens at random points, if someone is talking it will finish the audio. No keys work, i ahve to hard boot. I cna't do anything without it freezing. I have an ati rage pro turbo agp graphichs card and i meet the rest of the requirements. I downloaded the patch, no change. I changed from d3d to opengl, nothing. I did full install, nothing. I'm sure it has been posted before but someone please help me before I go crazy.
