Getting the game to slow down.

I found out why I couldn't get any games to load or to change options because the game kept cycling through so fast.I disabled the joystick(it's a useless piece of garbage anyway) and now I can play the game OK.I've just got to persuade Guybrush from disappearing every now and then.At the moment I keep saving like mad.
