KOTOR strange error message (Windows 7)

Okay, first off: I did follow the installation guide here, (XP SP2, Dantooine fix, DX 9.0c, etc.), I tried both full screen and windowed, all resolutions, updated my drivers, movies disabled, with and without the SecuRom exe, and just about everything else I can think of.

I'm running a Dell N5110 with an I5 and integrated Intel HD graphics (I think this is the root of all my troubles) and Windows 7 home premium. And no, I am not using a crack.

So, I installed the game as per the guide and it went great. The launcher runs fine, but the game itself does not. I have the 1.00 version of the game, and before updating it would just show that picture of the Ebon Hawk for a couple minutes and then the picture would go away and nothing would happen.

Now that I've updated to 1.03 (using the in-game/launcher updater) this funky message pops up along with the Ebon Hawk:

Does anyone know what this means or how to translate these symbols into something readable? Has anyone else seen this message and been able to fix it?

As I mentioned before, I suspect that the Intel graphics are to blame. I keep getting the post character creation crash in TSL as well, no matter what I try. I have the version without the flipping policy option.

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps installing the game without any of the procedures you mentioned above?

There are some out there (such as myself) who can run the game without them.

But it could be due to Intel Graphics like you said.
