Odd Problem

I just got EMI recently and I am having a tech problem on Lucre Island with the chess players. After getting the skinny pirate angry, he says something like "Here's a move for you" and all then the action looks like it's in a loop. The portly pirate moves back and forth on his chair and Guybrush moves around slightly, but I have no control over him. The game hasn't hung, as all the sound effects are working -- including the ticking clock and the waves -- and I am able to use the F1 menu. I've tried changing the in-game options, the out-of-game options (force 16-bit and OpenGL), saving and restoring, reinstalling with everything except the movies, etc. No results.

 

Any ideas would be helpful.
