Cutscenes won't play in Kotor 1

Hi all!

 

I've downloaded and installed the game twice through steam, and while I haven't run into any issues with the gameplay, for some reason the cut scenes simply won't display on my screen. I get sound, but the screen remains black until the cutscene is through at which point it displays the game once more. It won't let me watch the movies via the link on the main menu either. If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it!
