can't get on the raft

I have the clock, put it on the raft but I can't get on. The only options I have are to look at the raft or look at the puddle. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do? Thanks.

Try using the U button, to Use the raft. Speaking of the U (use), E (examine), and P (pick-up) buttons, I sure hope you ppl have been trying all of 'em on every object you can find. I rather enjoyed the 'Pick up the Moon' comment myself, but then I was always a big fan of nostalgia.

Actually, I half expected a reference to Grim Fandango's very own full moon scene when I saw the moon outside Meathook's place.
