_Obsidian_NIR
I am still playing EMI and i really really love it. But as I noticed that many of you say that Grim Fandango is better, iI borrowed it from my cousin to have a look at it. It is horrible. No humour, creepy graphics, bad atmosphere and the plot no matter how complex it is, it is silly! Come on EMI is really better. No comparison. And to prove it, have a look at the sales. Guybrush UK
i thought Grim was going to be boring with no comedy... but it is in a Film Noir/Dark Comedy style, & how can u not laugh when the resistance leader starts talking about penguins on pogo sticks (dont ask me, i dont got the game, but i WANT it ) ------------------ Marco... Maverick1587246216
Well I have to say.. I have Grim Fandango and EMI and I have to say that Grim fandango is pretty boring.. isnt all that fun.. EMI is much better.. I dont know what everyone is talkin about with GF being better.. but whatever.. ------------------ "Say, that ring looks exactly like the cursed diamond ring from LeChuck's ship! Morello
Grim Fandango is sophisticated humour, I think. Well, more sophisticated than say.... a three-headed monkey behind someone's back. But it wasn't primarily a comedy. It was based on the Noir mystery films, and actually did exceedingly well in replicating them. I thought Grim Fandango was a brilliant game. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Grim was better than EMI, or EMI was better than Grim. They're both extremely different games. The only similiarity is the engine in which they're both made. *grim spoiler below* Although I still think that anyone would laugh when Manny asks that chick who's in cahoots with Hector LeMans where the resistance leader is, and she says 'Ask him yourself' and chucks his head in the backseat, then the dramatic Noir music thunders through your speakers and finally he just says 'Hola Manuel!'. I loved it I just realised the similarities between that bit and MI1. Wow. ------------------ Rage. What better time than now?

Michael Dodson
I think EMI is funnier than Grim, but the storyline to the latter is a gazillion times better than the one in MI4.
Guest Guybrush112
How can you guys think GF is boring?? O, you guys probaly don't like film noir? You see, I'm into that stuff, plus the comedy that was in GF was hilarious! (GF spoiler) When Glottis gets a machine part and says, "Manny, up until now we scraped across the ground like rats. But now we soar! Yeah. We soar like eagles! Eagles on....POGO STICKS!" or when Manny releases Bruno to the Land of the Dead and bruno says, "Nice bathrobe." It was hilarious. But GF can't be better than EMI, they are so different you can't judge them together. I think GF was an AMAZING game full of humor, and a sad, compelling, film noir, deep, storyline. And I thought EMI was an AMAZING game full of even more (non-sophistocated) humor, complex storyline, intriging graphics and whatnot. But yu can't compare GF to EMI. In fact, the only way is to say they are both equal. (by the time I post this reply I better be a 'Three-Headed Monkey...grrrrr)

Guest C Shutt
Grim Fandango was so much better than EFMI. That you would prefer EFMI just goes to show that you are more interested in juvenile humour and bright colours than you are in originality and a sophisticated story. <em>"Come on EMI is really better... Bob Shrimp
IMO, EMI is better than GF for a number of reasons... 1. EMI has a better system than GF. That PageUp/PageDown feature allows many, many more items to be dealt with than GF's one-at-a-time method. 2. GF's humor was *TOO* subtle, and given the cartoonish/not realistic design of the game this doesn't work out too well. Monkey Island's humor works well with the game and thus it beats out GF in this respect. 3. EMI's plot isn't bad when you compare it to the plots of the other Monkey Island games (especially Monkey Island 2), and so it isn't bad in that respect. As far as GF, well I will admit it does have more of a plot, albeit a complex plot that, at least I found, isn't very engaging. 4. I had more fun playing EMI than I did GF. So there! (Heck, I had even more fun playing The Dig than I did playing GF.) Bob Shrimp ------------------ You: What is the Secret of Monkey Island? Me: The secret is, is that there is no secret. You: Huh? But what about Big Whoop, the Three-Headed Monkey, and/or The Big Honking Monkey Robot? Me: Oh *THOSE*. Well you really can't call them secrets now, can you? You: Huh? Me: Well everyone knows about them now, don't they? You: Well I guess... Me: See, there you go. Since they're not secrets anymore, there is *NO* Secret of Monkey Island. So what has this taught you? You: Never to spend, $39.99 on a computer game. Me: Tsk, Tsk, BAD MONKEY!!! *Whack!* Besides, that was more or less a direct steal from an answer to the first Monkey Island game! Kiersiege
EMI rocks. Period. Haven't played GF but I'm pretty sure I'd like it too, Doubt I'd like it more than EMI though. If you want to say I like bright colors and juvenile humor fine. I also happened to like Jar Jar Binks. I thought he was brilliant for the purpose he servers. It wasn't until CShutt came in attacking people for thier opinions that it turned into a petty argument Grim Fandango was so much better than EFMI. That you would prefer EFMI just goes to show that you are more interested in juvenile humour and bright colours than you are in originality and a sophisticated story. It seems like you are defending this person because you agree with his/her choice of game...I believe that would make you a hypocrit.
Guest The Feral Chicken
I am not calling anyone here thick or anything, because you obviously aren't to like adventure games, but I agree with C Shutt. Grim was better humour FOR ME as it was nice and subtle, like in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. But I like juvenile comedy as well, otherwise I wouldn't watch South Park and play MI. Also, I disagree with Guybrush 112 about this comment; --------------------------------------------- If you hate EMI, go to a GF forum or a non-EMI forum. Cheshire
All right, what is this??!!! I have read every reply on this topic, and I think it is very childish! I mean, I like both EFMI and GF very much, and for very different reasons. In GF I liked the characters, humourous dialogue, grafics(which I have to say are just about the same as EFMI), and the whole noir/dark movie feel .And I liked EFMI for its great humour, color, and hilarious dialogue . But as someone else said, you can't compare them, they are too different! I loved them both, and I hate people who make a fight out of opinions. So there. MtBlanc
I don't want to compare the two games. Doing so would probably end up ruining the feeling each left us with. Grim Fandango obviously had a focus towards environment. Each location was well illustrated and the graphics of it all truly added to the expierience. I'm not saying it was the graphics that made the game, it's just that's what I felt was the game's strong point. It didn't matter how sharp they were, they were like LCR's graphics. The environment was what mattered and that was its strength. EMI seemed not to be focused on an environment that drew you in, but one that outright tried to make you laugh. Even the deep dark environment of the Mists o' Time made me laugh. Once again, with the story and dialogue, I think GF tried to create a film noir feeling. The amount of wit and sophistication show that, whereas all of the MI games (especially EMI) are blantantly funny with direct jokes all around. That is the first goal of any MI game: to make the player laugh. GF seemed to take humor and make it a secondary goal. Sure, at times the story seems to be directed towards humor, but it slacked off at other times. Most often, the wit and sophistication of the story molded the jokes and humor of GF into subtle jokes. I am not favoring either path both these games took, for each appeared to be quite successful. Both GF and EMI seem to have a different goal in mind. GF is to create a grand adventure that forces the player to think back to each environment he/she played through and think of how each scene conveyed the film noir story. The wit and sophisticated nature of the story went hand in hand with the environment. EMI's goal is to obviously make the gamer laugh. While EMI's goal is simpler, that does not make it any less of a goal. Therefore, I see these two graphic adventures with different intentions and I do not think it fair to judge both with the same standards. Also, I do not think that anyone could possibly say that either game is poor when looked at alone. If you don't agree with me, fine. Just tell me why, don't call me an idiot. I think that is obvious in itself. (Come on, I chose Dinghy Dog as my username, what can that possibly say about my intellect!) I am sorry for the length of this post. ------------------ Oh there's a monkey in my pocket/And he's stealing all my change/His stare is blank and glassy/I suspect that he's deranged. Guest The Feral Chicken
'Grim' is more my normal style of sophisticate and suave, subtle humour, but I can definitely let myself go anytime for more direct humour ------------------ That's the second chicken I've ever seen!
