Agent007
Is that possible? I mean... what kind of superior intellect could play through the entire game without ever once using a walkthrough or asking for help? Beware, if you say that you've done this, you will open yourself up to criticism and suspicions of alien origins... Just kidding, but everyone looks at least once, right? BTW, I'm not very far along, so don't spoil anything, please.
Concho
I havnt used a walkthrough yet as i want to enjoy EMI completely. However, that is why i am still in lucre island i am so stuck i have no clue as what to do. But as the next adventure game wont come until mid next year atleast...i have time. I beat grim by myself, took me around a month...but the satisfaction of beating it all by myself was worth the wait and frustration i endured with some of the puzzles. Rufio
there are always parts in games where someone needs a little boost along the way, but i have never used an outright walkthrough. ------------------ (¸.·'``'·.¸¸.·'`'·.¸¸.,.,.¸.·'´`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸) «´¨`·.¸¸.*NewFoundGloryBoy* .¸¸.·´¨`» (`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸.·''´`'`'`'·.¸¸.·'´´`'·.¸¸.·'´´) Wanted: one clever signature
Agent007
Well yeah, that's what I meant. I really want to get the most out of the game, but I totally did not think about some of those puzzles... Besides, I'd rather enjoy the game by checking the walkthrough for certain details, than chuck it out the window after 2hours of frustration... Burns
I didn't use a walkthrough or ask for help in EMI, but that's not to say I've never referred to one or asked for help in other games.
Agent007
Yeah, well... I guess the problem may lie in the fact that I'm slower than most people when it comes to adventure games. I'm in it for the laughs. Not that I'm following the walkthrough, but I'll spend half an hour on one problem, and if I still don't have it, I literally glance at the provided walkthrough. I hate to use it, but it's no fun when you're frustrated. I've only used it like twice...
Burns
I have nothing against walkthroughs, if I have exhausted all the ideas I have after taking a break and starting fresh, I'd peek at a walkthrough. Guybrush UK
the European versions dont have the 'walkthough' included in the box... just one tacky CD manual... (not the usual high-standard one like CMI) but i only referred to an online walkthough twice... once about Daves FRD & the other for a few MK pointers... ------------------ LUA Bar... Whats a LUA? Guybrush Threepwood
I completed Curse and Escape with no guides or help whatsoever. But wanna hear something even more insane? I've completed 2 Discworld games (1+2) without ANY HELP at all. None. Zip. Wazzu. ------------------ This mighty pirate is also known as:

Rufio
it all depends on the obscurity of the puzzle. if its totally mind boggling like some things can be, u need a little push to keep going, that or a swift kick in the (I KNOW ITS GONNA BE CENSORED SO DAMN U!!) ***! ------------------ (¸.·'``'·.¸¸.·'`'·.¸¸.,.,.¸.·'´`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸) «´¨`·.¸¸.*NewFoundGloryBoy* .¸¸.·´¨`» (`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸.·''´`'`'`'·.¸¸.·'´´`'·.¸¸.·'´´) Wanted: one clever signature
Bob Shrimp
Darn this new fangled internet, and stupid Lucasarts for putting hint books in their boxes! *Sigh* Look, I can proudly admit to be a fairly competent adventure gamer in my own right, having beat the original Monkey Island, Space Quest 1-3, and King's Quest 1-3 without any outside help. However, that was before the internet... *Sigh* I sadly admit to be the kind of person who just can't *HELP* but read how-tos on how to finish adventure games. I know I'd enjoy the game better w/out it... but... *Sigh* (times two). Anyway, curse Lucasarts for giving a COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH away with the game... Oh well, so the my answer to the original question is no, no I didn't make it through w/out the book... Bob S - Wow, that's the Secondmost pathetic excuse for looking at a walkthrough I've heard all evening...
Agent007
Hmm... ok, now I don't feel so bad... I really hate to use the walkthrough... but like I said... ------------------ "I'm not picking that up!"
Brian Corr
I didn't use a walkthrough, but i didn't quite work out some of the puzzles, like how to get the skin. I just triade all the combos, i didn't work it out properly. I didn't get a walkthrough with it, not in Australia (how dumb is handing one out???) I was lucky not to have any problems with the swamp. ------------------ "I will stride to the gates of hell-" "Stride?" ...ROLL to the gates of hell..." Cheshire
Okay, I have used walkthroughs, and I have to say that I'm not ashamed. I mean, it's all really about enjoying the game, right? I get really frustrated with puzzles, because I hate being stuck for half an hour. All I'm saying is that walkthroughs are a fine tool for us impatient people! DEMORALISED
some of the puzzles in EMI are really badly planned out and are no fun at all. take the filing system for example, it is complete trail and error. i ended up going through every possible combination before eventually getting there. and then there is monkey combat... urgh!!! that is so frustrating. the combinations change every time and guybrush's favourite move is usually 'FOUL'. i wish the puzzles were like in the previous 3 games which are all classics, at they had a certain amount of logic and after making progress you would think "that was so simple why didn't i think of that earlier?" After finally opening the door in the mine i just thought "that was a hidiously stupid puzzle, how the hell did that work" i will definitely wait to hear a good few reviews before buying the 5th monkey island, which i hope there is as EMI would be such a weak end to legendary a series. Cheshire
Yeah, I totally agree. Some of the puzzels are really dumb, like the filing system. I mean, how in the heck were you supposed to figure that out?! I got help for that one, but it was still stupid! Oh, by the way, when you have to find the bronze hat, whenever I ask the truth parret which way to go, he always replies by saying this thing I can't make out. It sounds like "Bawk,Bawk,Bark" or something. Is this a game error?

Spiffing Blue One
you should go into the options and put on the text and voice option then you'll know what it says... ------------------ That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen! -- Guybrush
Guest murta
I didn't use the walkthrough at all for EMI (although I was very tempted at times), I used it once in CMI (for the very last puzzle in the game - pepper + LeChuck), which really annoyed me 'cos I got through the whole thing 'til then without any help, plus it was the first ever time I had used one. Since then i've never used a walkthrough again. I have played alot of adventure games - the whole Roberta Williams collection (Kings Quest 1-8, Laura Bow 1+2, and loads more) most Lucasarts adventures, all the Space Quest games (I was really peeved when they cancelled SQ7) and all sorts really. I don't think the puzzles require a superior intellect, the opposite really, I think you need to be absolutely bonkers for alot of puzzles in adventure games (the funny ones, at least). One last thing to say - I HATE WALKTHROUGHS (their soo tempting but ruin games for you)
StarEye
I never used any outside help for completing EMI. Unfortunately I used help just once - but I try convincing myself I had to. I was so sure it was a bug in the game and I was right ... you know the certain-bug-that-has-to-do-with-Hermans-memory. I still feel bad though... Anyway, I started anew on this part and got past it in no problems. That's all... does this count?
