greg5
Hello all! As my writing and grammar style will show it, my main language is not englsih, so i decided to learn some grammar, and new word with the funnyest way i can imagine, translating comliltly Monkey Island 4 (and then the other 3 perhaps ) ) there is a couple of words, expressionns (am i wrote good?) that i was not able to find not even the big dictionary, but i want to know what they mean. So can some guys help me? For example what is a "kraken" ("why u sound like a sick kraken?" - Britnay And what is to "pick a possey" ? - Otis said. And what is futz around - guybrush, at the very beggining of the game. Thanx a lot,
Kid
to "pick a possey" is to pick a flower "futz around" is to basically do meaningless things and I don't even know what a "kracken" is
greg5
LOl. Thanx. I got some more questions. What is a "keister" (butt? perhaps? ) ) What is a "scalwag"? What is to "switch to decaf" (guybrush) What is International house of Moja. Has any meaning of Mojo? Stick around.
herbie429
A kraken is a large sea monster. A scallywag could be said to be a dishonest person like a theif or something. To "switch to decaf" means to change from normal coffee to decaffeinated coffee (coffee without caffeine in it). You are right when you say a keister is another word for butt. I can't help with Moja though sorry. Hope this helps you out!
greg5
Thanx to every one. I still have (and will have) some questions to ask. Rufio
1.on the fritz: if something is on the fritz it is not functioning properly 2.get beat up a lot in school: unpopular kids usually get beat up 3.easily mastered: u got it, basically easy to play 4.googam: perhaps a large number, a google is a 1 with an hundred 0's after it, but i dont know exactly what a googam is 5.fit in my pants: an inuenso to how there is no more room in his pants because of his manhood (his doink) 6.octopuses: sea creatures with eight tenticles covered with suction cups. ------------------ Just because u can hear my music blasting across the house, doesn't mean that you can just walk in without knocking and expect me to have clothes on. Guest The Feral Chicken
Carry a tune; to play a leading role in a song Honker: Nose ------------------ That's the second chicken I've ever seen! What with me being a pirate and all. I don't see many chickens in my line of work. What? Stop looking at me like that!
herbie429
A honker could be referring to a nose or a horn (like a car horn that you carry around. BEEP BEEP! ) Faux=French for false. Follicle=Part of your hair. I guess "faux follicle" means false hair then or a wig. Good luck learning English!
Rufio
pantywaist, someone weak, a "wuss" ------------------ Just because u can hear my music blasting across the house, doesn't mean that you can just walk in without knocking and expect me to have clothes on. Cu Greg, first of all where you from? Anyhoo, to carry a tune is not so much to be the lead, but to be able to sing, whistle or hum in tune. That is to say, so it sounds right. Just so you know, many of these words aren't commonly used in english. If you went up to someone and asked them whether your honker was too big. They'd probably laugh at you. real estate: land which you own, your real estate would be where your house is show tunes: generally music from broadway-style musicals, for example anything from the HMS Pinnafore (a musical) would be a show tune, anything from Grease would be a show tune... milkmoney: yeah, literally it is the money for milk, but it actually has more of an idiomatic (idiomatic: something that is only used by one culture) meaning.. which at the momment escapes me.. I think it's just petty cash Mojo: mojo is sort of a non-sense word that has been associated with the practice of voodoo (a sort of african/carribean religion which involves all sorts of crazy magic) it may actually mean something to the voodoo people, but to us its just a word associated with magic and voodoo it's spelled posey easily mastered doesn't necessarily mean easy to play, anything which is easily mastered is easy to learn and easy to do... not like english (hahahah, trust me, this language is tough compared to others) and as for all your words like plunder, pillage etc.. yeah they're pretty much all intechangeable and the all mean to steal.. (however they're not commonly used in english, you'd get strange looks) Well, good luck S./

MtBlanc
Even though I started out speaking English, I think that English would be the hardest language to learn, compared to any other Germanic or Romantic languages. I mean the language just doesn't make any sense. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Dinghy Dog (edited January 18, 2001).]
