Is GB worth it if you played AOK?

I wanna know if GB is worth it if you played AOK and got sick of it. Note that I'm an avid Star Wars fan and I can ONLY play singleplayer.

I, for one, played AoK a lot, and AoE. Got sick of 'em. Uninstalled 'em. After a while, re-installed 'em. Played them again for a while, got sick of them again, uninstalled them again. When GB came out, I had the same hesitation you had. But finally I bought it, and it was totally worth it. GB gives you many extra dimensions and aspects to the game that AoK just couldn't give, because of the technology and timeline. Some nice new benefits:

1. Air power -- this adds a whole new level to the game. Your walls do not protect you against TIE fighters, so the building strategy becomes very different. Anyone who neglects his air units will be in big trouble. I smacked the computer twice -- once as Naboo, once as the Alliance -- by building a massive 35-unit air assault force, and pounding him with it, after some of my early forays into his town revealed that he had no air defenses towers, and only a few anti-air units.

2. Cloaked/hidden units -- Jedi can hide, bounty hunters can detect them, Gungan ships can hide, etc.

3. Mechs -- nasty, powerful armored units that can transport other units. Try wading through his hapless forces with a massive AT-AT walker, and then dumping 10 Sith Masters on his butt from inside the walker. MUH-hahahahah.

4. Sound and music -- There's a lot to be said for using *english* instead of the nonsense gobbledygook like 'choppen' and 'pwervus' that the AoE 1 and 2 units would say when you clicked on them. Jedi Apprentices say, in Obi-Wan's voice, "Yes, Master?", when you click on them, etc. The music in the background is straight from the soundtracks of the 4 movies, including many of my favorite bits, like Duel of the Fates. And the sound effects for the unit battles (lightsabers, blasters, explosions) are wonderful. It definitely adds a dimension to the game.

5. Star Wars random world locations -- These are nifty. You can play on a random Hoth-esque or Tattoine-esque location, which is fun.

6. It's Star Wars!! There is nothing more fun than smacking the bejeesus out of the Galactic Empire with your Trade Federation Destroyer Droids. And of course, instead of "monks", who convert units but are otherwise very weak, you have Jedi Knights, who convert units but are also stinkin' powerful in their own right!

I played AoE 1 and 2 both, for hundreds of hours each. Got sick of 'em after a while (but admittedly a long while, as they are great games). I am not only glad I bought GB, but I have found a renewed obsession with the game, that AoK or AoE could not bring me. My only regret is that they don't have enough civs. I've played 4 of the 6 already, and while I'm sure I will have fun playing them all many times, it'd be nice to have a few more "unexplored" ones. But oh well -- they will probably add those in an expansion some day (and I willd definitely buy it).

May the Force be with you.
