Guest Imladil
Well, Thyferra ('Moff Seerdon's Revenge) is like going a jungle where everyone is trying to kill you. The worst feature of the landscape is the TIE interceptors, which get on your lousy X-wing like aroused dogs that won't stop. Then there's the landing craft flying around at the end with an endless supply of missiles (and Vincent Price-like epitaths) to throw at you. My favorite bit about Thyferra was the pyramids and the bug-people running around...so I could blow them up! ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth
Guest The Master
He is right. (I had to post something.)
Guest Chillin
Thyferra is a real mission it is the second to last actually.(not counting bonus levels) You fly in the great and powerful X-Wing on Thyferra as well. After Taloraan is Fest, then Chandrila, then Sullust, then Thyferra, and the last of the normal missions is Mon Calamari. On Taloraan you should use the Naboo Starfighter, mostly because it is fast. To get more kills try shooting up more of the squints and eyeballs during the "standard Imperial swarm manuever." And IMLADIL, I'll have you know I have had no trouble in shooting down the squints that shadow you on Thyferra, you just need to know how to use the X-Wing. Also, the Moff Seerdon's shuttle is much easier to blow with my X-Wing's proton torpedoes. You'll never do it with the dinky missles your A-Wing has! ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission."
Guest Imladil
Did I mention that I once passed the level with the Millenium Falcon and no cheat codes? I did, you know. Try it...if you like dodging missiles with a tugboat, that is! Me...gimme an A-wing. Then I just wander around at my leisure, smacking down TIEs and busting chicken-walkers in the head. My small spaceframe and high top speed mean that I'm already leaving by the time the Imperials realize that I'm coming...and missile turrets suddenly mean very little (and the laser turrets even less) because I present such a small target. But, I suppose the X-wings will always need a few of us A-wings around to run strike escort. Otherwise, they just make good targets when the real Imperial forces show up. ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth
Guest The Master
I thought you had to put a cheat code on to get the FALCON.
Guest Chillin
IMLADIL, I have one question. How can you stand it? I mean the missles on the A-Wing they don't do anything! It takes three of your missles to blow up an AT-ST when it takes me only one! I think I would die if I had to use those missles. Truth be told you are right the A-Wing is fast and good for not getting hit. But when you finally have to turn around and face the dang squints that follow you everywhere, the A-Wing is just dead. Cause the Interceptor shoots at you and jolts you around so you can't hit him with your lasers on a head-to-head. But what I really hate is when your doing loops and turns chasing the squint and you finally get on his tail, he hits the brakes and goes so slow that he gets right in front of you, and the lasers can't hit him, and most of the time you end up killing him by running into him cause you can't go that slow. The A-Wings shields just aren't up to that kind of abuse. Speaking of not going slow enough, when your soaring around in the A-Wing you cannot slow down very fast, I've died that way by running into things! ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission." Guest The Master
I guess CHILLIN doesn't like A-wings.
Guest Chillin
You'd be right to bet on that one. ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission."
Guest Imladil
*Chuckle* Yes, the A-wing's high top speed gives it a wide performance envelope, and novice pilots can get in trouble if they're running at the top end when it's time to slow down. It's a tricky beast, a sports car, and you can't just gun the thing like Uncle Fred's Mustang. Have you discovered snap-firing the missiles? If you don't have time to wait for the lock-on, just push the button twice quickly. An AT-ST requires just two missiles when you're giving him laser love as well; they take no time at all to launch in the described fashion. The A-wing has another advantage many of us missed by tearing right into the game instead of carefully reading the instruction booklet first: the A-wing has a sensor-jamming packet that confuses enemy radar. This gives you few seconds of free attack time before missile turrets 'see' you. Any other starfighter gets tagged right away. Plus, the A-wing has a better sound system. ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth
Guest The Master
To see what I have to say, look at the X-WING post.
Guest Chillin
I did not consider myself a "novice" thank you very much! However, I did not know about the jamming package, I'll have to try it. What I mean when I say I run into things sometimes is this: Have you every noticed how sometimes the lasers you're shooting go through turrets? Well sometimes I take chances and am flying in at my target, It's not like I just run into it, but the lasers go through it, I see them hitting it but they do nothing. I'm just saying with the A-Wing's speed and how slow it slows down it is hard to do anything before it's too late. And I also dislike the pivoting lasers, they work fine on ground targets but they stink for hitting TIEs! ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission." Guest Imladil
The only time the pivoting lasers give me grief are on Thyferra and Taloraan, when the idea is to not shoot the bacta or tibanna gas containers. Those stupid guns don't know any better, and they aim at the closer target--even if it's a bacta container. Yeah, I've had the same problem with lasers shooting through things without blowing them up! What's up with that? ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth
Guest The Master
I don't know. I have noticed that also. If you wish I could do a bit of research, if I wanted to.
