Guest Innror
I have read some of them, yes. They tend to be very similar in style all of them i think.
Guest The Master
Does anyone have Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, or has anyone read the book. I have the game and read the book. Just wondering if anyone has done the same.
Guest Innror
i've read the book, but i have never played the game because i was told that it sucked.
Guest Chillin
I've read the book but never played the game. Alright not a Sci-Fi movie but a great one: The Princes Bride. If any of you have seen it and didn't like it, well that would be absolutly and in all others ways completely inconcievable! ------------------ "Life is fair." It has now been written. Guest The Master
The game dosn't follow along with the book to good, but still the game is okay.
Guest Imladil
Imladil's vote for all-time number one sci-fi series of any type, in any media: the novels Eon, Eternity and Legacy by Greg Bear. And bear in mind that it has to beat out Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings in the consideration... ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth

Guest Chillin
Everything we talk about here has something to do with flying monkeys! ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permision."
Guest The Master
Ohhh noooo! The flying monkeys have invaded this topic! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! One other thing, has anyone ever read Terry Brooks, Shannara books. They are excellent! If you liked The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, you will love this! Guest Imladil
No, I never read them. Instead, I actually went to Shannara and slew everyone. That's right. With this sword--it still has blood on it, see? I don't know why, but my interest in fantasy lasted just long enough to read Tolkien's books three times back-to-back, then I moved on to sci-fi proper. I guess maybe when it comes to fantasizing about how I wish life were, I just naturally think of outer space... ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth
Guest The Master
Well, I like Sci- Fi books and Fantasy. When you think about it they are ALMOST the same.
Guest Chillin
I'm with THE MASTER I like Sci-Fi and Fantasy, I guess I'm really more into Sci-Fi, but the whole magic, sword fighting, and mystical beasts thing is quite interesting. ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission." Guest Imladil
Well, I have a healthy appreciation for those things, too...although I'm more interested in how things really were back in the day. Plus, I like to play with swords in the here and now. My choice in fiction of this type is more properly historical fiction. Anyone like The Thirteenth Warrior or Braveheart? I would consider Henry V and The Last of the Mohicans good examples, but they're actually modern versions of classic works. Now, Highlander...that is fantasy proper. Especially when he's seen sharpening a nihonto (way old) Samurai sword with a file--I shudder every time I see that part of the movie. Any other good sword movies I haven't seen? Or other sword nuts in the house? ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth

Guest Chillin
I would be considered a sword nut. Me and my friends that live by me built fake swords out of pvc pipe, and we beat each other up, practice some real fencing moves, and make up our own. I'll be taking fencing lessons later. I've seen Braveheart and The Last of the Mohicans, both were very good. Well, The Princes Bride had a very good sword fighting scene in the begining, that movie is very funny. Another movie is Blade, you know the movie about vampires, that had a good sword fighting scene at the end, but it was not really a real sword fight, they moved so fast and just hit blades alot, no real moves or anything fancy. ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission." Guest Shootist
I'm not much of a blade man. Hence my screen name SHOOTist. Kinda like the scene in one of the "Raiders of the Whatever," when Indy runs into that sword wielding dude and disposes of him rather glibly. ------------------ VERY FUNNY SCOTTY, now please beam down my PANTS!!! Guest Imladil
Ah, yes! Sword versus gun...being a swordsman, I-- *Gurgxk!* (bleed, bleed...) PVC swords? I used to make mine out of sticks; they didn't last very long. If those PVC swords are causing too much damage, try taking a trip to your local martial arts or army surplus type store. I forget what they're called, but there is kind of practice stick used in Kendo that's made from four slats of bound bamboo--highly flexible, and only stings a little. (Note: when sparring with sticks, use four words--helmet, goggles, gloves, cup. End of lecture) Another fun tip: the pell. Take an old bicycle frame and hang it about chest level from a tree (anyplace where there's enough room that you can get around it). It makes for a constantly moving target which improves your parrying skills. Wooden swords don't last long against them, though...consider investing in a cheap but well-tempered beater sword. Let me know if the PVC stick holds up, but somehow I doubt it. I can't wait to see Gladiator. I'll wait till it's out on tape, then buy it. I just know it's one I'll want to own. Sword movies are always a big hit for me, along with space...I guess that's why I like the Star Wars movies so much. ------------------ "I sought the true nature of reality but discovered instead the real nature of truth." --Thrustweasel of Earth

Guest Chillin
Yes, Star Wars has sword fighting and space combat, excelent combination. You were right about the pvc pipes, they broke rather quick. I'll try to find one of those bamboo thingys though. We also used to use sticks, they broke quicker than the pvc pipes. ------------------ "Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission."
