Okay, let's compare. Jedi Knight has 21 huge, gigantic levels with mind-bending puzzles. Rogues Squadron has 19 tiny levels with no puzzles, just fly and shoot.

Jedi Knight has ten different weapons to blast your opponent, including the legendary lightsaber. Rogue Squadron limits each ship to a single warhead. The proton torpedoe are far too maneuverable and fast, and would never be able to knock out a TIE interceptor.

The plot in Jedi Knight makes some sense, but it has a few odd parts, like Kyle becoming a Jedi immediately after finding a saber in a garage. But, the book series based on it smoothed everything out, making the weirdness of Kyle's Jedi training simply something to better gameplay. Rogue Squadron's levels make little sense. Why were the Imperials shooting down homesteads and bombing Mos Eisley? Why did the transports have to go through Imperial territory on Barkesh? etc...

Jedi Knight has multiplayer.

Jedi Knight and Dark Forces is editable, and there are hundred of add-on quality SP and MP levels available for download. Rogue Squadron leaves you stuck with 19 levels.

Jedi Knight has a huge community. Check out www.massassi.net or www.commandchamber.net or www.outpostd34.com etc. As far as I know, this site is the only active Rogue Squadron site out there.

When it first came out, Jedi Knight was declared best game every by PC Gamer, before Half-Life came out. It still is praised by gaming communities, as being one of the best classic FPS games out there, and one of the best SW games, also, along with the simulator games. Let's see, what was Rogue Squadron awarded with?

Need I go on? biggrin.gif Now, Rogue Squadron is still a fairly decent game, but I find it gets old if you like playing new and different levels after a while, instead of playing the same 19 over and over again. smile.gif

True, it's better than five. biggrin.gif

Sky, the fact that you can defeat interceptors with proton torpedoes was my point. If you've ever played any of the simulator games, you'd see the torpedo is slow, unmanueverable, and only good on large, slow, unmanuverable objects. Unless you have a tractor beam installed on your ship, using a torpedo on an interceptor would just be a total waste of a warhead.

We should complain to LEC. They're always screwing us over now, especially now with cancelling Obi-wan. mad.gif And that isn't the only unrealistic thing in RS. I listed a few others in my post above.

You make valid points, Cougar. But you have to remember RS was developed for N64, the PC version is just the secondary platform for greater market presence. Therefore RS is missing things a PC game of that time would have: multiplayer, editable missions and the ability to write new missions among other things. Unfortunately this means it has no new goodies to keep it in the forefront of gaming communities. Not a lot of activity on this forum because there is not much new to discuss about the game. This I concede.

RS is an arcade action game, not a simulator. This is fine with me as I prefer the simple joystick controls when flying a fighter, no mind numbing number of hotkeys to worry about. So we are comparing apples to oranges here. RS is ship combat only, not a FPS where you can go running about flailing a lightsaber at every dark shadow you see. wink.gif The ships are really cool and fun to fly, and the story line is not as bad as you make it sound. Story lines never explain every little detail, you are giving the info a pilot wpuld know and needs to know.

Seriously, Dark Forces and Jedi Knight are great games but a totally different genre from RS, all are set in the same SW universe. Word is RS II is in development for GameCube next year and I hope it makes it to PC again. I'm betting they improve upon it greatly and it will at least have multiplayer if not mission writing capabilities. smile.gif

umm, i think you're wrong about Roguesquadron 2, i just got word of it being "used" as a demo to show what the gamecube will be capable of, so that's another thing to tick us all off.

Rogue15, what kind of info did you hear about RSII? Are you sure the source say it was onlya hardware demo and not in development as an actual release? Please don't let that be, I would be crushed. I'm still hoping it is in secret development for the GC but no official announcement will be made till well into next year. I checked the LucasArts, Factor5 and Nintendo sites, all are quiet on RSII. Too quiet. So quiet I think it means something is going on. Keep your fingers crossed. smile.gif

yeah it's probably too quiet, i'd love to see rogue squadron come to ame cube, hopefully it isn't a remake and they do missions in between empire and jedi, maybe they'll make a shadows of the empire 2 also! umm, you could always try writing to nintendo.com and asking them about it. i heard it from someone else, that's why it may just be a rumor that it's not going ot come out.

Yes, there is difference in general genre, but the quality of the games can still be compared. Because it's on N64, that means that it can't have multi-player? What are you trying to pull there? smile.gif Besides, why couldn't they add extra goodies.

Anyway, I'll get to the rest later. Gotta go. smile.gif

they couldn't add extra stuff like multiplayer in rogue squadron for n64 because it would ahve to be on a cartridge, and the cartridge only holds so much, a cd holds alot more than a cartridge.
