Naboo fighter makes my graphics corrupt.

I'm having trouble with the Naboo fighter. I can fly a mission with the default craft and the graphics are fine. But then if I fly the same mission with the Naboo, there is a black horizontal line all the way across the middle of the screen. That black line remains in all missions and with all craft I then use, unless I restart the game. I believe my version of RS is 1.3. The Naboo fighter came with the CD, I didn't have to download it. My graphics card is a 32MB NVIDIA TNT M64 AGP. I've got a Dell 4100 Series with 128 MB of RAM and a PIII 933 processor with DirectX 7.0. I ran the system checker both before and after installing RS and it said everything was fine.

Anybody else have this problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well Indiana, I don't know. This is a new to me.

I too have a Dell PC very similar to yours. The differences I spot from the specs you posted:

MINE ---------------- YOURS

PIII 550 ------------ PIII 933

Same graphics card

Same 128 MB RAM

DirectX 7.0A -------- DirectX 7.0?

Naboo patch added --- Included on CD?

RS 1.2.0 patched ---- RS 1.3 release?

Well, my RS CD came as part of a Dell promotional free bonus software bundle when I bought my Dell December 1999. It did not have the 1.2.0 patch so I downloaded it from the official LucasArts site. I am not aware of a version greater than 1.2.0. Check your RS release version again and also that of DirectX. If you don't have DirectX 7.0a, get it. I DON'T recommend going to DirectX 8.0 at this time.

I hope this helps. And if you do have a newer version of RS than me, please post back and let me know where you got it. Thanks and good luck.

Gold Leader,

I believe my RS release number is 1.3. I'm almost positive that's what it said at the top of the Readme file, but I'll double check.

Yes, the Naboo fighter came preloaded on my CD (I just got the CD for Christmas). I bought the computer in October 2000. I have not downloaded any software for RS. My DirectX is 7, though I'm not sure what version (I think 7.0A, but I will check that too - whatever came with the computer).

What driver do you have for your graphics card? I see there's a new one (version 6.31) at NVIDIA's website, but I don't know if it will help.

Thanks for your feedback.

Gold Leader,

I checked my computer last night, and here's what I found:

My version of RS is 1.3.

I have DirectX7.1 (4.07.01.3000). I ran the DirectX Diagnostic, and everything passed and was installed correct with no bad or missing files.

Then I decided to run the Analyze Your Computer from the Rogue Squadron CD and got the following error message:

"Unable to find the DirectX diagnostic tool on this system. Installing the latest version of DirectX might fix this issue."

But like I said, I was able to run the DirectX Diagnostic by going to Start > Run and typing dxdiag. So this morning I ran the Analyze Your Computer for my Star Wars: Force Commander game, and it worked fine. All my DirectX files and drivers passed inspection. So somehow the link between RS and my DirectX has been corrupted or deleted or something. I've e-mailed Lucas Arts tech support and am waiting to here back from them. Any advice you or anyone has is appreciated. Thanks.

Well Indiana, since you bought your PC almost a year after I did, it is no surprise that your DirectX software is a newer version. You don't mention what OS your running, I'm using Windows 98 SE.

The thing that does surprise me is your RS CD is version 1.3. I expected it to be 1.2 and maybe even include the Naboo Starfighter, but what is the difference between 1.2 and 1.3? I cannot find anything on official RS site about a later release. Does the documentation or readme files mention anything? I'm curious as to what has been added, changed or fixed?

Anyhow, according to your last post, it appears the culprit may be DirectX related as you said. I'm not sure what can be done to fix this. All I kmow is that my RS 1.2.0 and DirectX 7.0a work together flawlessly. I do know that RS will install the DirectX Diag in the RS folder. If DirectX was already installed before you installed RS and you did not install it with RS, then it will not be in the RS folder and the error message you received from RS makes some sense. It will not find it where it thinks it should be?

Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

P.S. - I will check the drivers for my TNT2 card and let you know what version I have.

According to the Readme file, version 1.3 added the Naboo fighter and fixed some of the problems related to Voodoo based video cards. I'm running Windows ME. I didn't install DirectX with RS because RS found my DirectX during install. It also found it after the install because I ran the Analyze Your Computer feature and it worked OK. The game worked fine for a while, but resently I noticed the problems when using the Naboo. Sometime and somehow between then and now, something has happened and RS and my DirectX can't "communicate" or see each other. It's especially funny that it only happens when I use the Naboo and then remains from that point forward. I know my DirectX is fine since I ran the diagnostics and Force Commander found it OK this morning also. Very strange indeed. I will keep you informed.

Sorry I forgot to post this earlier, been very busy. My driver files:

Video Card: NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 4xAGP 4.11.01.0231

DirectX: 7.0a (4.07.00.0716) Originally installed DirectX 6.0 which came with RS CD but later updated with web download to 7.0a.

Now I get different results if I run Dxdiag.exe installed with RS compared to Dxdiag.exe installed with 7.0a. RS version is in the RS folder and gives old results. Other Dxdiag.exe in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM gives current, correct info including latest version of DirectX and drivers. Go figure.

i must have the same version you do. It came with naboo fighter prepackaged. There hasn't been any serious problems, i just ogt ticked off one time, 'cause the game crashed RIGHT when the cutscene went in on taloraan (after i finished beating it getting the advanced lasers to make fest a bit easier).

It says in the manual i think to put the desktop color to High Color 16 bit, maybe that's your problem.

I found out that my computer IS a Pentium 3 'cause i did the analyze computer thing!!!! I didn't even know i had a pentium 3, it's a 600 mhz too! I'm so happy!!!! I need more ram though, i only got 62 megs, soon i'd like to put some more in, maybe 60 more, so then i could play some more games, like Force Commander.

Who else other than me thinks that they should make a link between force commander and rogue squadron 3d, and make force commander into an editor for rogue squadron 3d???
