Guest Chiles4
I'm using a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick and it's just too twitchy - hard to target anything effectively. It'd be great if there was a sensitivity setting I could lower for the stick but their isn't. I've got a nice Gravis Xterminator sitting on the shelf. Has anyone used a gamepad effectively with RS? If so, does anyone know if the proportional joypad works? I can't see the D-pad being of any use...
Guest Rogue9
Stick with a joystick if you can they work better. ------------------ Leader of 3 Flight 4 in the Green, Weapons Hot, Torps Armed...Oops
Guest Rogue15
and while you're at it, get a force feedback one!
Guest Gold Squadron Leader
I have a Gravis Blackhawke Digital joystick and it works great! Rogue9 & Rogue15 are correct, a joystick is the way to go with RS. See if you can adjust the sensitivity on your Precision Pro in the game settings, although I don't think this is possible. If not, the BlackHawke is a steal at $20. ------------------ Ties are flies, swat'em!

Guest Chiles4
Thanks for the input, guys. I guess I'll just stick with the Precision Pro. I just find it hard to target precisely cause it's just not very stiff but that may be true of a lot of joysticks. I play RS on my friend's box with a Blackhawk analog and I do prefer the Precision Pro to that stick. I wonder if the digital is any better than the analog? It's wonderful to see an active forum for a Star Wars game! Especially for a game that's been around for quite some time! OT - I'm trying to find active forums for Force Commander and I'm getting seriously depressed about it as that's my favorite SW game. If anyone knows anything... Guest Rogue Renegade
I used an old Thrustmaster stick when I first started playing the game. When it finally fell apart I search and experimented for quite a while. However, I ended up buying the Thrustmaster Top Gun joystick because of the button layout. Now I still like the older stick better, but nothing can beat the layout of the Thrustmaster.
Guest Gold Squadron Leader
Chiles4, you would think the Blackhawke Digital is superior to the older analog version, but to be perfectly honest I have never compared them side to side so I cannot answer that question. All I can say is that when I searched for a joystick for my PC I checked them all out, review & public opinion wise at least, and found the Blackhawke Digital had all I wanted for a great price. All the reviews were quite good. Sure, there are better sticks out there, but most cost 2X, 3X or 4X as much for little added benefit, IMO. I didn't even consider force feedback models since I don't like that feeling at all. And no, I wasn't looking for the cheapest stick out there. I just don't like making MS any richer than I have too. Quite frankly, I think some of the bigger sticks are way overpriced. ------------------ Ties are flies, swat'em!
Guest Chiles4
I agree, Gold Leader. I think a decent joystick should cost about $25-30. Yesterday I did some research into joysticks at www.ibuyer.net looking at CH, Logitech, Gravis, and Thrustmaster and the only joystick that fell in the $25-30 range was the Blackhawk Digital. Plus Gravis has a $10 rebate coupon for it at their web site. Everything else either was too expensive or too cheap. I've heard good things about the Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D but looking at a picture of it I don't think I would like it.
Guest Gold Squadron Leader
Yes, I forgot to mention the rebate in my price for the Blackhawke Digital. I bought it for $30 - $10 = $20 final cost. So if you can find it for less, say $25, then your cost is only $15! It is a mighty fine joystick for that price. Seriously, nothing else even comes close. NOTHING! Like I said, there are better sticks out there for sure. But as far as value for your dollar is concerned, the Blackhawke Digital is tops. Period. ------------------ Ties are flies, swat'em! Guest Rogue9
the precision pro allows you to control almost every aspect of the game for the joy stick, only camera views and r and left brake are left out. ------------------ Leader of 3 Flight 4 in the Green, Weapons Hot, Torps Armed...Oops
Guest Chiles4
I took your advice, Gold Leader. I'm getting a Blackhawk Digital. I tried the Blackhawk analog to ensnare an AT-AT with an A-wing (oops, I mean snowspeeder) and the smoothness was incredible! - just holding the stick full to the left my A-wing made perfect circles around the AT-AT's legs - piece of cake! With my Precision Pro I'm all over the place - sometimes it takes me 6 attempts at snaring the AT-AT as I keep "losing the cable". One good thing about the Precision Pro is that its got moogoo buttons - enough to program anything. Maybe I can program the Blackhawk's hat switch to do left and right brakes - any thoughts? Guest Rogue9
I don't see why you couldn't. although for future reference you use a snowspeeder to ensare AT-AT an A-Wing is (not to slight anyone who likes it) not a very good fighter and the only good thing about it is speed. ------------------ Leader of 3 Flight 4 in the Green, Weapons Hot, Torps Armed...Oops
Guest Rogue Renegade
Thats what I like about the Thrustmaster Top Gun. For on $15 I have complete control with one hand. I simply program the layout like its recommended on the RS reference card (the thrustmaster is the top left joystick). My POV hat controls Special Function, laser sync, roll over, and camera view cycle. I couldn't play the game worth anything until I started with the Thrustmaster layout. Guest Gold Squadron Leader
All the buttons, including the 8 position hat switch are programmable on the Blackhawke Digital. So map them to whatever RS functions you want. It is easy to do. ------------------ Ties are flies, swat'em!
