Guest Imladil
Love the mask! Saber 01: Concealing a saber would be like trying to hide a hunting rifle in your coat. The tactics you favor would work better with a shortsword. With a blade length under two feet, these weapons are handily concealable, quickly drawn and very much a surprise in the dark. Good blade forms in the shortsword category would be the baselard, the wakizashi, or possibly the yataghan (if you like a recurved blade.) There are others, like the Roman gladius and the kukhri as well, but listing them all would be pointless. Glad to help. ------------------ 'So, how do you like my new screaming Gungan hood ornament?' Guest S1DC
Thanks alot, man. Though your advice is sound, i can't very well change a SN i've had for sevral years. I would prefer a naginata myself, being a rather bruteish fighter, but a katana (preferably ming dynasty) would be excellent as well. ------------------ Saber One
Guest Rogue9
I will take a Spec 6 Combat knife over a saber any day...all you need to do is get in close and a saber is useless...as the wepon must be thrust through the victim a knife on the other hand can be used in close quaters is easily concielable and can be used in a thrusting or slashing attack

Guest Imladil
'Lightsabers' aren't real. Now, a naginata would be a good choice! Despite the Japanese cultural bias of its being a 'woman's weapon'* at the time, many samurai chose the naginata as their first weapon due to its efficiency in combat. Essentially a spear with a long, halberd-like blade on the end, it had the greatest reach of the Japanese pointed weapons. For swords, though, the katana is acknowledged by most experts worldwide as the most effective bladeform mankind has produced. *THREAD HIJACK IN PROGRESS* A Ming dynasty katana would be one of the imitation swords made in China during the time period. The Chinese were folding and laminating steel like the Japanese were, but their smiths hadn't quite developed the art of pattern welding the different kinds of steel found in true katanas. Chinese katanas tended to be thin, and of course lacked the artistry of the Japanese sword's elegantly undluating temper line. Rogue 9, you want to bring a knife to a sword fight? That tactic is fine if your opponent doesn't know how to use the sword! If he does, consider trading that knife for a gun. *The samurai left the women behind to guard the castle when they went to war. As the naginata was a weapon that could be used from defensive walls to repel attackers, its use was taught to the women. Of course, in Japanese society, women were free to study the use of other weapons; there were even female samurai.
Guest S1DC
Ahhh, even a brilliant sword studier knows the power of a colt single action army at times... Althogh, i must admit, its much more satisfying slicing your enemy in half. Give my that naginata, please... (i am unstobbale in bushido blade 2, i might add...) ------------------ Saber One
Guest Imladil
Actually, my gun is a model 1917 double action Colt .45 revolver. That was pretty close! I prefer double action. A gun that's always ready to fire (even though it's a long pull) can save your life when a second counts. I like swords, though. My preference is the katana, of course. I have two handmade WW2 katanas (though they are tachi, to describe their mounting more accurately) in my collection. One I refurbished with tooled leather and new brass pegs in the handle, as my own personal sword. Any other sword freaks in the house? Speak up! Guest Imladil
Gun versus sword: The sword requires years of practice in order to gain true proficiency. The study of martial arts can help, but it is the actual physical training that is important. The samurai also studied zen as a way of bringing mystic powers to their combat skills; likewise, the study of zen is less important than the years spent in meditation. The gun, on the other hand, requires little training. It's use can be taught this simply: 1: Point gun at bad person who you want to die. 2: Pull trigger. 3: If bad person isn't dead yet, go back to step #2.
