Guest Rogue3
Hey I have just began to read the return of the king, I have a question, why when Gandolf came back he was no longer Gandolf the grey he was Gandolf the white, any 1 care to explain this to me? ------------------ I was born in the shadows, and in the shadows I must go; to find bliss and joy. Guest edlib
Oh man,... it's been years since I read these all the way through! I think the answer is talked about in-depth later in the books. If I remember correctly it was kind of a symbolic rebirth. I'll have to re-read these books again soon. EDIT: OK,... I looked it up in a book I have called "The New Tolken Companion" Gandalf is really an immortal, one of the 'old ones' from the beginning of Middle-Earth (that also includes Sauron.) After defeating the Balrog he went through a purification of sorts that caused him to be re-born into "... The White" which is the highest level that a wizard can obtain. Hope that clears things up a bit, and isn't a spoiler for you. [This message has been edited by edlib (edited September 26, 2001).]
